Prediction: Whoever comes out of Region 1 (Central Cass, Kindred or Oak Grove) will take state. It's easily the toughest region in the state. Maple Valley actually WON a tournement out west (Center??) earlier this year and I'm not sure they are even going to make it out of District 2, let alone Region 1. Northern Cass also competes well outside of District 2, but also may not make it to regionals. Great teams in Region 1 this year!

The intriguing matchups for the first round are in the evening bracket. Region 4 vs. Region 6 (whoever loses this game likely gets 5th Place)

Top Possibilities for each matchup
Region 3: Ellendale, L-HMB, Napoleon, S. Border, S/Z, LaMoure vs. Region 7: Beulah, D. Trinity, Beach, R-T
Region 1: Kindred, C. Cass, Oak Grove, Oakes, N. Cass vs. Region 5: Grant Cty, Flasher, Shiloh
Region 2: Thompson, H-N, Park River-FL vs. Region 8: Ray, Stanley
Region 4: Carrington, Midkota, Langdon, N. Star vs. Region 6: Kenmare, Our Redeemer's, Bishop Ryan, M-L-S

I understand that we need to move state around to various cities, but 170.00 for a motel room in Minot is ridiculous. IN the past the state would create a block of rooms for each team that also included some extra rooms for parents. This year they told us there would only be rooms for the teams, no extra rooms for parents.170.00 plus a night is ridiculous. With these prices they (the NDHSAA) should be looking at other options, than Minot.

My suggestion would be to call the NDHSAA...The more people that call them, the biggest difference it will make. Its not going to do any good to complain amongst ourselves (I am right there with you). We need to take it to the people that can do something about it.

We were just there last weekend and paid $140/night at a brand new hotel. It's certainly nice that they have added some more options. I don't know how they are going to swing the Boys B basketball tourney though...

Agreed.....I'm calling the NDHSAA tommorow to discuss the room situation. Nothing against Minot but it is no longer a viable place to hold state tournaments of any kind.

I spoke with Justin Fletschock (sp) from the NDHSAA regarding the room issues etc that we have been discussing. First off the tournament is being held in Minot and from what i got out of the conversation there is no discussion regarding relocation. In regards to the room situation, each team that qualifies for state will be given a block of 11 rooms, obviously nowhere near enough to house a team, coach and parents.
He suggested that i go to the NDHSAA website and look under the volleyball tab, they have some hotels listed with a special State tournament rate in the 130 a night range and as far as he knew no one was having trouble getting rooms. Wether that is true and correct i do not know

The NDHSAA needs to get it together and make the necessary changes for not only this tournament but any others going forward, can you imagine what its going to be like trying to accomidate the crowd for boys basketball?

Here is the proposed/approved tournament sites until 2019.......absolutley ridiculous!!!
