Looks like region contenders are:

1- Northern Cass, Oak Grove, Central Cass, Richland, Hankinson
2- Thompson, PRFL
3- Oakes, Carrington, LLM, LHMB, NGS
4- Langdon, North Star
5- Center-Stanton, Shiloh
6- Our Redeemers, Rugby
7- Trinity, Hettinger-Scranton
8- None in top 20

Interesting to see this year that the top 5 teams in the lastest QRF are all from different regions. In fact 6 different regions are represented in the top 7 teams. Great to see that parity between regions. Last 2-3 years it has been too bad that teams like MPB, North Star and Carrington haven't made it to the state tournament.

Carrington sweeps Oakes (25-23, 25-15, 25-16). Kadyn Mehring and Nichole Shmidtz are very fun volleyball players to watch. I expect we will see 2 more rematches come tournament time...

Dickinson swept Hettinger-Scranton last night, would expect to see these two play again this season.

A few random questions about class B.
1) has there ever been an undefeated state champ?
2) fewest set losses in a regular season? LLM had 5 last season
3) fewest set losses for an entire season?

I would check out Hankinson in 2014. They were undefeated until the state championship game when they lost to North Star and didn't go to a 5th until the state semi-finals. According to MaxPreps, they lost 3 sets in the regular season. They won 3-1 against Central Cass in the regional final and went 6-5 in the state tournament.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, I think Langdon had a pretty impressive run to a title back in 2010. They lost one set in the state tournament. They may have only had one loss in the regular season - to Wyndmere-Lidgerwood.

I believe that is correct. They were 45-1 that season and lost 7 sets all year.
Langdon did go undefeated in 2003. They were 45-0 and lost 7 sets that year as well.

wouldn't that be a total of 8 sets? 5 in the state tournament and 3 during the regular season.

Check out Central Cass in 2002. I believe they had very few losses in the regular season and none at the state tournament.

Hankinson went 35-1 in 2014...MaxPreps tends to have errors on it (duplicate games tend to occur often...)

viewtopic.php?f=66&t=12350

By my count...Hankinson had 10 sets lost that season (all data is on this site...as I did scores the same way back then)...they lost 5 sets at State That year (3 in the Title Loss and 2 to Hazen in the Semifinals).

What is the term used when the volleyball teams score more than 25 points for a win like 28-26?
Overtime? Baseball extra innings?

Also is there a record for consecutive aces?

Was at a match last week one kid had 5 consecutive aces. I have seen 3 a few times and 4 once but never 5.
Thanks

I don't know if there is a technical term for it. I've always heard it called "extra play."

I usually just call them deuce games, borrowing terminology from tennis. Any set where a team wins by 2. This may included 25-23 sets, but for me I'm interested in how teams do in tight sets in general, and not just sets that go to extra points.

This is crazy. District 16 sweeps 15. All 3 matches are 3-0 and all but one of the matches are non-competitive.

Not at all crazy. District 15 is pretty poor for VB. Trenton was only team with above .500 record coming into the Region tournament. Parshall made the Region tournament with 3 or 4 wins (D15 does the WORST job of reporting scores...for any sport).

Records of the teams from D15 that made Regions (excluding their loss tonight): Trenton (18-9), Trinity Christian (5-12), Alexander (10-11), Parshall (3-17)...I was missing several results from all teams EXCEPT Trenton (records of the 2 teams that did not qualify for Regions: New Town (5-13) & White Shield (1-13)!!).

A whole district sweeping and/or blowing out another district in Regions. I think it's happened several times before some of these regions went to the 'super region' format. I'd have to research it tonight or tomorrow to give examples.

District 12 in 2014 and a lot of the others had 3 matches that were 3-0 and one that was 3-1.

2014 for District 12...none of the sets were close either (25-15 was closest set)

Good stuff.

Here is another, do you know of any VB or BB first round of regions where one region won of the 3 of the 4 games/matches, but the team that lost was a district champion?

Example: district 7 beats district 8 in 3 of the 4 first round matches and the only district 7 team to lose was the district champion.

I think that makes sense.

wow, what a night in Region 1! Each match goes 5 sets, last sets were decided by 2 points. Northern Cass barely escaped the big upset bid by Richland. Great to see the coverage on-line. Are any other regions streaming their games?
