Gonna have to disagree with you here. Mitch has lost to Jake Mclean two times this year and is ranked third at 160.

From what i've heard they have been good matches so it could go either way if they were to meet again.

He has lost twice to Jake McLean, and Jake Mclean has lost twice to Damon Weigel from Napoleon. But it is state tournament and you never know what will happen.

I'm going to have to disagree with this also, Mitch has lost to Jake McLean everytime he's wrestled him. Unless he's got a good trick up his sleeve for state, I dont think he stands a chance. Jake's come a long way and improved greatly. Good for you Jake!

I don't totally disagree with you guys, I'm just hoping Mitch has his best weekend of wrestling when it counts. Best of luck to them all, whoever comes out on top will definitely have earned it this year.

Ford won in a barn burner. Finals score, 18-14. Ford got called 4 times for stalling (one more and he would hae been DQ'd.) But he took McLean down twice straight to his back and got a few other takedowns.

Ford will meet Napoleon's Damon Weigel, the #1 seed with a 39-1 record going into the finals. Weigel's only loss was to Vetter (a Class A kid from St. Mary's @ the Rotary. Ironically Vetter was the #1 seed and was upset tonight).

Should be a good match.

Congrats to Anthony Von Ruden and Andrew Grothmann for winning state titles! First time in school history that two Burro wrestlers won titles.

I would not say Ford got screwed. I just watched the matches via the internet and from what I saw he appeared to be backing up quite a bit and it sounds as though he was called for the same thing in the semi final and almost lost it by DQ. It is not a way to lose a match and I certainly didn't want to see it end that way. Most suprisingly I had not heard that he had lost this way.... I was thinking Weigel was going to throw him or some other pinning combo but it was a DQ in the finals. If a ref is calling stalling it is because they are cracking down on wrestlers stalling across the board and not a vendetta against Ford or anything like that. I don't think that the ref would have called another stalling against him it just wound up that Ford clasped his hands illeagally and that cannot be overlooked in that situation. It is just unfortunate that he had four stalling calls against him already. He beat him right up to the end of the match when he was diqualified horrible way to lose but the rulse are the rules.

First of all, how can you get a clasping call when the ref had not awarded the 2 points for the takedown. And from what i heard his hands were not clasped, he had one hand on each leg trying to bring Weigel back onto the mat.

I just went back and watched this again. The ref had awarded the two points for the takedown almost immediately after Weigel went to his butt. The assistant referee had position and made the CORRECT call on the clasping of the hands. He made sure that he looked underneath and was sure of the violation prior to telling the head referee. If anyone would like to watch the finals they are on the internet. Go to http://www.activities.educ8.org/ you can view the finals of Class A, B, and the Dual finals as well. This web site was well done and kept those of us wishing to be there updated in a timely fashion. I invite all of you to watch it as objectively as you can.

I was a ref for a short while and I can say this, it is harder than it looks. If they were calling stalling it is a system wide thing not an isolated "get Mitch Ford" event. As for the stalling after a wrestler stands up and the controlling wrestler does not bring him down in 5 or less seconds, that is new to me but I am sure that it was developed to keep the match moving. I said it before I will say it again. It is a bad way to lose and even worse match to lose it in. The violations were there and the refs made the correct call.
