Hey "Baseball" about forgetting to step on bases... Tuesday I was at the Mayville State/Minnesota Morris game and MSU was takin it to Morris, shutting them out. Then in the 3rd inning Morris got a guy on 3rd w/2 outs. The batter smacked it, one hop and hit the fence. He ended up getting a double out of it but when they through th ball back to the infield the first baseman asked for the ball, stepped on first, and the ump called the batter out. He missed first base! even though the guy on third was at home way before the out it still got wiped off the board because the out at first base was considered to be a force out! Morris ended up scoreless for the game!

baseball4life wrote:how is velva still in the top 4 for baseball. they are extremely overrated and they dont have a whole lot of depth. I think that thompson and bishop ryan are the really good things. i am interested to see the bishop ryan Langdon game because i have not seen them. im not sure that velva is going to make it past the first round of the state tournament even if they make it. i think velva is an average team not a top 5 team at all.

Velva beat Turtle Lake tonight 10-0 in 5 innings and are now 2-0 in the Region. Im just curious why you dont think Velva is a  top 5 team in state. They put up 26 runs vs Garrison-Max and have gave up a total of 3 runs in Region games? just wondering what you think?

ok so they have beat max-garrison who isnt great either....i just dont think that velva is a great ball club. the thing is that the will battle with any team and i give them props for that. but i just dont think skill-wise that they are all that talented.

Where are you from? Do you have a team with more talent? Unless you're from Thompson, I would guess not. I think with the exception of Thompson, Velva can fields just as much talent as anyone in class b.

Alright i was just wondering what you thought about it. But personally i dont think that talent wins everyone ball games fundamentals win games i think the little things like errors and strikeouts will cost teams ball games not talent.

thats what talent is.   not striking out...talent.  making every play...talent.  you cant say every player is equally talented but just make more mistakes, it makes no sense.

sd 8, langdon 3

two runs by langdon in top of first with tanner adam homer...sd responds with five in the bottom of inning...bakkum comes in during the fourth and finishes the game for the save and has 7 k's, to go with 2 hits, three runs scored, an rbi and a stolen base offensively. steve berreth added two rbi and a run scored.

sd 5, landgon 4 (6 innings)

no idea on how it all transpired....sd scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie it...langdon scored a run in the top of the sixth and the pirates won with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. chris heins went the distance on the mound, and had 7 ks....1-for-1 with two runs scored offensively. some guy named lyons (don't know his first name) went 1-for-3 with an rbi for langdon.

sd has won eight straight (9-1 overall)

who does everyone pick to go to state? i think that class b this year has some good teams. And i am not saying that velva isnt talented because they are i know that they are constantly at state and i am guessing this year will probably not be an exception i am just saying i thikn that depth is going to be an issue for them

You're probly right on the depth part. But if they can stay injury free, the nine guys they put on the field are pretty solid. After losing 8 seniors, there's ovbiously not gonna be as much depth anymore.

thats exactly what it is too that i think there pitching is pretty good and like i said they are a team that will battle with anyone and they always seem to put together a good season. it seems they get better as the season goes on all the time

carrington scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to knock off midkota 6-5. Pat Bulzomi was 2-for-4 with a double while Bobby Henson (WP) had two singles and a triple for Carrington. Travis Duffy was 3-for-4 and Bryan Christianson was 3-for-5 for Midkota. Joel Anderson was the game's losing pitcher.

The Cardinals were then beaten pretty loudly by Lakota, 15-0. Lakota scored in every inning but the first and collected 12 hits while holding Carrington to just two. some kids named olerback and wall (don't know first names) were 2-for-3 for Lakota as Brad Wilkinson picked up the win. Bulzomi was dealt the loss for the Cards.

lakota also beat midkota 7-1. jordan grover had 12 ks in 6 2/3 innings while james (?) olderbak had five ks in six innings and relinquished one hit.

chris hoerth had three hits for lakota while midkota's hits came from nick weiland and josh quick.

midkota's travis duffy was hit in the chin by a pitch in the third inning. sounds like he is day-to-day and might miss at least one game.

to add a bit about t.l.'s post about the pbk/nrs and harvey/nrs games from monday...

pbk 17, nrs 4

pbk had 11 hits including including four guys (parker snow, ross florhaug, troy vanray, josh simenson) with multiple-hit games. nick bata went gonzo in the fifth inning, a solo shot. nrs had nine errors and parker snow had 10 k's for pbk to go with 7 bb.

harvey 16, nrs 2

kevin buxa and casey frantz combined for a...uh...two-run no-hitter (boy that sounds odd). buxa had 10 k's while frantz struck out 3. buxa also had a pair of hits, a double and a triple, and josh zeiein added two singles.

both games probably weren't quite as bad as the score looks, pbk scored seven in the sixth to kick in the 10-run rule and harvey had six runs in their last inning.

pbk is 4-0 in the region, harvey is 3-1 and nrs is 0-3 (i think)
