Does anyone have any thoughts on the upcoming EDC baseball season?  Team strengths/weaknesses?  Top returning players?  Top newcomers?

Fargo Shanley won both games of a doubleheader in its season opener against Pequot Lakes with scores of 5-4 and 4-1. Andrew Sinner got his first home run of the season for the Deacons in Game 1. Shanley’s Justin Nelson went 2-for-4 with a double in the second game. Catcher Andy Schweigert went 1-for-2 with an RBI. The Deacons play Fargo North on April 17.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Tom Ebert threw a shutout with seven strickouts in five innings to lead Fargo North in its 4-0 win of the first half of a doubleheader against Grand Forks Red River in baseball action Tuesday. North lost Game 2 13-3 in five innings due to the 10-run rule. Nick Pederson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Spartans in Game 1. Eric Flacksbarth also went 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Jared Mavis hit a grand slam home run to seal the victory for Fargo South in its Eastern Dakota Conference doubleheader wins over West Fargo with scores of 10-2 and 6-5 on Tuesday. Tim Rude also added his first home run of the season for the Bruins in Game 1. Justin Hanson threw eight strikeouts in six innings.

Bismarck, North split doubleheader

Bismarck had 19 hits in Game 1 and Fargo North’s Eric Flacksbarth hit his first home run of the season in Game 2 as the teams split a high school baseball doubleheader. Bismarck won the Game 1 18-6 in five innings and North took the second game 4-2. Flacksbarth was 2-for-2 with two RBIs in the second game. Drew Hendrickson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs for Bismarck (4-2) in the first game. The Spartans (4-2 overall, 3-1 Eastern Dakota Conference) visit Fargo South at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Ebert is one of the best pitchers to come out of North Dakota in the past few years....i dont see a team getting more than 2-3 runs off him in a game all year

Packers’ Horsager throws no-hitter - Horsager, a junior righthander, struck out 12 to record his first career no-hitter to lift the Packers to a 2-0 win in the first game over Wahpeton. The Packers won the second game 10-7.

South baseball wins two in Devils Lake - Fargo South gave up just four runs in a doubleheader baseball sweep of Devils Lake on Monday. The Bruins won 13-2 and 5-2.

Baseball: Seventh-inning runs resulted in a split between Jamestown and visiting Grand Forks Red River on Monday. Jamestown won the opener 6-5 when Austin Kastet singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Red River took the second game 2-1. The Roughriders broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh when Mike Longoria singled, then Peter Brekke singled pinch-runner Garrett Sondrol to third, from where he scored on Andy Sadler's fielder's choice. Eric Meland had three hits for Red River (2-2) in the opener.

Fargo North is 4-1 in the EDC and 6-2 overall.  The West Fargo Baseball website has the EDC standings.

I saw north play south...i might bewrong, but judging by that game, tom ebert looks like the only legitimate stud on either of those teams...south looked pathetic and had no standouts...how come they arent good, they are the biggest school...why doenst solum play???  EBERT IS A STUD on the hill and at the dish

solum and bouchane are benched with leg injuries as of right now i believe and are to be back somtime in may i think

 Well I was at the North-DL game and Ebert is a stud.  I will say North and Central will be the two teams to beat in EDC at tounament time.

 Central lost the second game to DL in DL.  The two at DL were both conference games.  The two played at cental last night were both non-conference. Last night DL won the first 4-3, and lost the second 17-7.

Thief River Falls swept visiting Grand Forks Red River on Thursday. The Prowlers won the opener 13-7, with Michael Benedict scoring four runs and winning pitcher Eric Carlson going 4-for-4. Mike Longoria was 3-for-4 with a homer for the Roughriders. Thief River Falls won the second game 12-10, with winning pitcher Ryan Kaushagen getting a home run. Jarrett Galbreath homered for the Riders.


Visiting Devils Lake split a doubleheader against Grand Forks Central on Thursday. Brandon Sigette scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning to break a tie and give the Firebirds a 4-3 first-game win. Central rapped out 18 hits in a 17-7 second-game win. Winning pitcher Sam Wedin was 4-for-5 with two triples and three RBIs, Danny Meyer was 4-for-4 with a home run and five runs and Alex Moe drove in four runs to pace the Central offense.

Knights, Eagles reach semis

WALKER, Minn. - Grand Forks Central and East Grand Forks Sacred Heart have reached the semifinals of the annual Sacred Heart Invitational tournament.

In Friday's quarterfinals, Sacred Heart topped St. Thomas-Drayton-Valley 12-5. Ben Pribula, Ross Cariveau and Brad Marek each had a pair of hits and a pair of runs to lead Sacred Heart.

Central topped Grafton 13-6. The Knights broke open a close game with six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Danny Meyer's 2-run single. Alex Moe had three hits for the Knights, while Anthony Kliniske had a double, home run and four RBIs for Grafton.

In other quarterfinal games, Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg downed Tri-County/Marshall County Central 16-9 and North Border beat Kittson Central/Kittson County North 9-1.

In today's semifinals, Sacred Heart plays Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg at 8:30 a.m., while Central and North Border meet at 10:30 a.m. The championship is scheduled for 3 p.m.

A six-run sixth inning lifted Grand Forks Red River to a 6-4 win and a split with visiting Fargo South on Friday. Winning pitcher Eric Melland's 2-run single in the big inning drove in the go-ahead run for the Roughriders, who are 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the East Region. Melland and Andy Sadler each had two hits in the win. South won the opener 8-4, scoring four runs in the sixth to pull ahead 6-3. Tim Rude homered for the Bruins.

DL sweeps Shanely.  DL won the first 4-2, and they won the second 10-8. Josh Lagein had a solo homerun for DL.
