the sad thing about it is jamsetown only won by 2 even though dickinson had 8 errors in my opinion that is saying somthing

BHS beat St. Mary's 9-6, with a huge 8 run 2nd inning in the conference game. St. Mary's won the second game 12-2.

how did that tourny in jamestown end up? i heard minot had a good tourny and finally got their bats going...how many bombs did they hit and who hit them?

Well Elgie hit 2 and Lundy hit 1 against Red River on Friday but idk about yesterdays game.  Elgie might be the top player in the state.

I agree, Elgie is the best player in the state.

St. Mary's could not get their bats going in the first game.  Mandan caught some breaks with the ball ending up in their glove somehow on a few hard hits.  Mandan scored their lone run on a controversial call with Bohan supposedly catching a ball out of play on the concrete which he was not even close to the out of play concrete. ( I was standing right there.)  So the runner on third base got to advance home. The umps made the late call after the Mandan coaches complained.  I say if you dont call it right away, then dont call it at all.  But I'll give Mandan some credit they made some big plays in the end.

Normally at Mandan,  the ball can be caught and carried on to the concrete and the player can still come out throwing.  Today, for some reason, it was as soon as the player with the ball stepped on ANY concrete, it was a dead ball, and all runners advance one base.  You could hear the catcher's cleats on the cement, it was just a late call because the umps forgot of the unusual rule change.  The rule was changed for this game before it even started.  It was a fair call.  Plus the next batter singled to left field, which would have scored the runner anyway.

I was standing 8 feet away from where Bohan caught it.  He was barely even in the dirt surrounding the concrete around the dugout.  Plus if there was no arguing with that call and the coaches going on to the field you cant say he stil would of singled.

And you can't tell me that he wouldn't have hit a double, or a hit right up the middle.  Either way, it didn't endd the inning.  Maybe that conference cooled the hitters and prevented them from hitting 8 singles in a row.

NEWS JUST SHOWED, Bohan obviously stepped into the concrete(obviously 8 feet isnt close enuff to see that Ming), thus making the ball dead and the call was correct.  That is not a usual grounds rule at Mandan, but for some reason the umps wanted to play with that today (it was Maloney, weird things are expected of him). 

If you looked closely on the news he caught it on the dirt, but his momentum took him onto the concrete.  That is just so dumb though.  Mandan should put a fence or railing or something to indicate its out of play.

The thing is that it is usually not out of play, but the umpires get to rule what is in or out, and they chose to rule that as being out today.

Normally that's not the rule, plus if he ran into the railing or touched it, automatic dead ball again.  And there is that yellow railing, do u want a yellow railing all the way around? or a chain-link fence?  that's asinine

Well if its the umpires call for what's out of play, then why did the Mandan coach have to remind them and make the call for them?  That is just poor judgment.

The behind the plate is a katinka, i think there is actually a rule about him umping frist games, he shouldn't be able to.   Either way, the rule was set, and both temas had to play by it.

Well would it have really been fair to just let it go?  A rule is a rule, if he has to remind him of it then it is a good job of the coach to help his team out.

Yes it probably would of been more fair to not call it, considering the ump didnt even notice that he caught it going onto the out of play area, where the ump decided that the concrete was out of play.  If the ump doesnt call it right away, then dont call it at all.  The coach just persuaded the ump.
