Baseball Movies

We all have our favorites, but let's get it out in the open.  What is the greatest baseball movie of all-time?

There are so many greats out there it is tough to tell. (all the Major League's, Sandlot, etc.)  But I have to say the WORST has to be Sandlot 2.  Not only is the first Sandlot un-sequel-able, the plot and story are totally absurd.  A girl playing baseball?!?  Please.  "Want s'more?  S'more what?"  S'more stinky movies!!

The greatest baseball movie of all time, without question in my mind is Field of Dreams. Costner plays such a good baseball guy in all of the movies that he appears in. And who can forget James Earl Jones' discription of basball...(quote accessed through http://www.americanrhetoric.com)

"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again. Ohhhhhhhh, people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."

However, I also enjoy two more baseball movies that are both true stories. The Rookie and 61* were both great movies, especially 61* which I really think got at who Roger Maris really was. Much of the stuff that I have read about him comes out in that movie.

come on guys, the first thing out of anyone's mouth should be Bull Durham, this discussion should start and finish with that movie.

It really tells the story of a die hard baseball player/fan of the game. I could go on quoting the whole movie but ill drop my favorite line....

"We're dealing with a lot of $hit here"

So many times when coach came out to the mound movie lines from Bull Durham were quoted.

Here's a favorite quote of mine from "A league of there own."

Jimmy Dugan: Are you crying? Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There's no crying, there's no crying in baseball. Rogers Hornsby was my manager, and he called me a talking pile of pig:censored:. And that was when my parents drove all the way down from Michigan to see me play the game. And did I cry? NO. NO. And do you know why?

Evelyn Gardner: No, no, no.

Jimmy Dugan: Because there's no crying in baseball.

Let's get serious, if you want to trya nd debate the best quote from bull durham, you might as well stop now.  That movie is symbolized by the "I believe..." speech.  Sums up the whole message of that character.

Although that is the most well remembered line from league of their own, the best line is when Tom Hanks is fighting with the ump and says,

"Did I ever tell you that you looked like a penis with a little hat on it?"

Classic.

for comedies i think it's Bull Durham, and for dramas its gotta be Field of Dreams. Great movie, especially since Ray's dad is from ND

In my Opinion I believe that one of the best movies that has somthing to do with a form of baseball has to be baseketball from the creators of south park it is hilarious

61* wasn't a bad movie either.  I liked it because it was showcasing a ND native in Roger Marris.  Just though I would put it in there.
