East vs West Baseball

Postby i_see_it_all » Fri Jun 29, 2007 11:04 am

I am a high school baseball guru and have followed for many years going to many state tournaments and games around the state.

with that said, it always seems like the West is stronger than the East in baseball.(not counting legion with fargo having over 100,000 kids to pick from).  But why is that?  minot is a powerhouse year in and year out, i sware dickinson is in the title game every year, bismarck won a title in '03... the west just always seems to be stronger and bully's the east in the state tournament and i don't know why?

this year was another good example. the west won 3 of 4 on the first day and two west teams were in the title....

is the east not big on baseball?  someone give me some insight on this.

Your perception is not too good.  Just last year (2006) three of the top 4 teams at the state HS tournament were from the East with GF Central winning it and Fargo North placing 2nd.   If you look closer you will see the power shifts back and forth and there is no real pattern.
And where do you get off thinking there are 100,000 kids in Fargo?  There are less than 2000 boys combined in all the high schools in Fargo.  That being said, Fargo should have two legion teams, too many good kids aren't getting a chance to play at that level.  By the way, the legion power in the East this year appears to be GF not Fargo.  Just one more hole in your theories.

willy willy willy

last year was the only year that has happened. if you really want to get into this we can and the numbers dont lie.

the west has won 5 of the last 7 state baseball titles...if u want to go back even farther we can.  theyve won 9 of the last 14.  good try though.:D

and i meant fargo has nearly 100,000 people in the city for a legion team, compared to the other class A team towns who have around 15-35 thousand.  fargo should win the title every year with those numbers.

and your mistaken my friend, there is no power in the east this year, which goes back to my original question and the reason i started this topic...why is that?

No, North did. Minot lost in the Semi-Finals. Tom Ebert pitched for North.

Which facts do I have wrong my friend?

Grand Forks swept Fargo at Fargo last week 13-3 and 7-4 and are 8-0 in the East.  At this point in the season they have the edge.

From 2000 to 2006 the West won 4 state HS titles and had 3 runners-up. The East  won 3 state titles and had 4 runners-up.  It doesn't get much closer than that.  This year the power is in the west, but it certainly is not a long term trend.
