I don't understand the rationale of who plays in G12 and G13. In my opinion G12 should be the winners of G9 and G10. Then G13 should be the loser of G11 and the winner of G12. The winner of G11 should automatically go to G14. I don't understand why if you win your first 3 games that you have to play that extra game.

I'm not sure how they came up with this bracket, but legion baseball has been doing this for at least 20 years. It is not a true double elimination tournament. I've never liked it.

It’s the same as the Legion World Series bracket. Been that way for years. The rationale is that no one gets a day off in this format, where in true double elim the 3 win team gets a day off. One thing this format does is not give anyone a pitching advantage by having an off day. Once you understand the bracket, it really isn’t that bad nor complex. As far as who plays the second to last day, the deck gets reshuffled for the final four and you basically try to match the teams that haven’t played each other yet in the tournament. This year it worked out perfectly as Thompson had already played Carrington and Mayville, so their opponent is Fargo. Thompson is still in the “ship” win or lose today. Just a matter of whether they have to get beat twice or once tomorrow. I don’t mind the format at all. One could say it is actually more “fair” than true double elim.

Interesting side story to tomorrow’s championship. Carrington won the Legion “B” in ‘14, ‘15, and ‘16. Thompson has won in ‘17 and ‘18. Carrington has played in the championship game 5 of the last 6 years. Carrington is nearing the end of their “dynasty”, Thompson may only be just beginning theirs. Two great programs on display in Hazen tomorrow.

My opinion, but if you're 3-0 the rest of you games should be for the championship. If you have a loss you shouldn't be forced to play an undefeated team, unless it's for the championship.

CWS is two four team double elimination brackets. The winner of each bracket advances to the best of 3 championship.

I think he meant the Legion World Series...not the CWS; with the pitch count limits this set up doesn't make teams play two games in one day as well with the exception being for rain outs

Correct Legion World Series. (Corrected/edited) Sorry for the confusion. I don’t mind the team with a loss playing the undefeated team if those two teams haven’t played yet in the tournament. Where this format “gets messy” is when you have to play the same team twice prior to the championship.

Looks like that happened in Class A this year.

The format might be fine. I admit I haven't been part of legion baseball in a long time and when I was we didn't have pitch limits.

The day off doesn’t have to happen. Why doesn’t winner of 9 and 10 play before or after game 11. Then you don’t have this extra game for the winner of 11, which still doesn’t make sense to me.

They also try to avoid the 2 games in one day as much as possible.

There are two ways of doing a double elimination tournament and this is the one the legion has chosen to use nationwide.

Legion World Series is not like this this year. As you know.

Nope it is not...they went to pool play this year. I'm wondering if it's because of the school year starting earlier this year for many states and to avoid conflict. Looks to be a day or two shorter than past years.
