As a rb or db?

According to the Forum, they are going to try him at RB and special teams. I hope they find a way to keep the ball in his hands because that's where his talent seems to lie. Think of Tyler Roehl - he was a good fullback for two years but when they moved him to his natural position at running back, he exploded, culminating in him setting NDSU's single game rushing record against the Gophers.

Does anyone know if he will red shirt his freshman year? It probably wouldn't hurt him at all. Does anyone know how Austin Richards is doing at NDSU. Or maybe if the other South lineman is still playing?

As long as Bohl is there he will redshirt. Nearly all of the freshman do at SU. They should redshirt him anyways because they are loaded at RB with Roehl, Pat Paschall, Pete Blincoe, DJ McNorton, and Matt Voigtlander. Plus, they already have Shamen Washington, DJ McNorton, and Gary Williams returning kicks. Horner would only benefit from the extra year.

I think he will be utilized as more of a safety at SU after his redshirt year. They are probably deep as they ever want to be at the RB position, ecspecially at the FCS level.

just to get the facts right i'm going there for a rb. they were recruiting me as a db because i went to one of their camps in the summer. they havent seen me play that much except when they came to watch austin richards. bohl told me that i was the most explosive player on the field. as my senior year went on they realized that i was more comfortable at the rb position so thats what im going to ndsu for. they also will use me as a returner and a gunner on special teams. so thats all i can say at this point. also they thought that they needed me because of my talent or they wouldnt have even recruited a rb this year.

Well as of right now they have 6 RB's returning for next year. They are also recruiting a pair of running backs from Wisconsin and a very talented RB out of South Carolina who ran for over 5,000 yards in his high school career. So they are recruiting RB's other than Horner. I still don't think he'll be lining up on the offensive side of the ball until his senior year or maybe junior year. My best guess is that he'll be listed and playing as a DB following his redshirt year.

well, i dont really know waht to think of him now that I saw him play agianst the West All Star Team. He didnt do anything significant with a solid line to block, and was basically stuffed all game. He seems to be a "wing t only" type of back, but he still may have success in the return game.

yea the west team did a good job not letting him to the outside and were able to contain him. he will be a solid returner in college with his open field speed

there would be no way of playin RB there for a long while...and you should realize that. Try for the special teams or defensive side of the ball. Shamen Washington will be a Senior this year and NDSU will lose him after this year obviously. Go to a position where you can play...DJ McNorton, Pat Paschall for the next 2 years will be hard to outplay for the RB position

They will always need about 5 quality guys at RB because of their offensive style of pounding the ball. Bison Media Blog said Horner has been practicing all summer with the team and looks to be in great condition. In any event players will usually gravitate to positions that give them the most chance of contributing on the field after a year or two. I hope he stays at RB, I like to see ND guys there at high profile positions.

from what polasek tells me hes very happy from where im at for a rb position. they might use me as a specialist but we dont know. theres a player named kevin jackson and hes hella fast. he ran a high 46 400m in highschool. and flame me all you want i practice with him everyday. all the players comming into ndsu have great talents.

Bottom line: nobody is just going to walk into a starting role at NDSU, especially not as a true freshman and not at a position that has an All-American starter. Sounds like Horner has the right attitude and that he was in great shape in drills. Heh, a lot of people doubted that Roehl could ever play running back for NDSU.

Rohl was also twice the player Horner was in high school.

Do you have any stats to back that up?
