They use the same system the SD uses...which is public knowledge unlike the MN QRF which is 'hidden'

Which formula does NDHSAA use for post-season qualification and seeding? The SD one that is public knowledge or the top secret MN one?

So the QRF on say Northdakota-scores.net is NOT the one that NDHSAA uses?

Just for fun- Looking at the State-wide QRF for this week. This is what an all-class 32-team Playoff would look like if we used this week's QRF formula and seeded it all the way out to #32

#32 MayPort CG @ #1 Sheyenne
#17 Beulah @ #16Fargo North

#25 Ray/Powers Lake @ #8 Dickinson Trinity
#24 West Fargo @ #9 Legacy

#28 Des Lacs/Burlington @ #5 Kindred
#20 Shiloh @ #13 Minot

#29 Divide County @ #4 Mandan
#21 Central Cass @ #12 Fargo South

#30 South Border @ #3 Fargo Shanley
#18 Oakes @ #15 Hillsboro/Central Valley

#27 New Salem/Almont @ #6 Valley City
#23 LaMoure/L/M @ #10 Velva

#26 Wahpeton @ #7 Jamestown
#19 Bottineau vs. #14 Thompson

#31 Cavalier @ #2 Fargo Davies
#22 North Prairie @ #11 GF Red River

Which of these potential games do you feel would be the most intriguing?

Beulah/Fargo North
LaMoure-LM/Velva (I would assume though all 9-man teams will be playing 11-man; LLM could probably do it)
Bottineau/Thompson - I guess we will see if this is intriguing or not this weekend.

#26 Wahpeton @ #7 Jamestown
-Wahp took this one earlier this year

#24 West Fargo @ #9 Legacy
-This would be good again, Legacy won this 7-6 earlier in the season

Not many others not already mentioned would be very good IMO

It comes out whenever they guy decides to run it (or is told to)...he chose to do it last night. My guess is that no Saturday games and quick results last night allowed it to get run early.

NDHSAA Website lists the bracket as follows:

#1 Sheyenne vs. #8 Century
#4 Legacy vs. #5 Davies

#2 Mandan vs. #7 West Fargo
#3 Shanley vs. #6 Minot

On the ND Scores website that lists the QRF there is this explanation as well:

Here is the process approved by the NDHSAA Board of Directors:

After final regular season games are done - the (Q)uality (R)esults (F)ormula calculates a QRF Value for every team
A "Tiebreaker Margin" of 10% of the Average QRF Value in a Class is created (11AA = 8.0, 11A = 5.6)
Starting with the Team with the highest QRF Value (slot 1), we compare to the Team with the next highest QRF value (slot 2).
If the team in slot 2 has either the same/better overall record OR is within the Tiebreaker Margin, they can challenge for the slot above them and switch spots with a Head to Head win. If teams did not play or do not meet the requirements for a challenge, the Higher QRF Value wins.
After the winner of this challenge is determined teams will either stay in their slot or switch slots and we move on down the list and repeat the process until no more challenges are possible.

Using this procedure, it is possible for a team to move up multiple slots and earn a higher seed based on the Head to Head wins.

*The "Seeding" menu at the top refers to how Minnesota does it - please ignore as we work to get the programming for the North Dakota side better on our end.

Here was the final QRF standings:

1 West Fargo Sheyenne (8-1) 135.0
2 Fargo Shanley (7-2) 111.1
3 Mandan (7-2) 105.0
4 Fargo Davies (6-3) 103.5
5 Bismarck Legacy (6-3) 94.2
6 Minot (6-3) 91.8
7 West Fargo (4-5) 65.3
8 Bismarck Century (3-6) 56.9
9 Bismarck St. Mary's (3-6) 52.1
10 Williston (2-7) 39.1
11 Bismarck (0-9) 23.5

Based on this- Obviously Mandan jumped Shanley due to a head to head win. Legacy also jumped Davies with their head to head win as well.

OK but Legacy is outside of the "head to head" window in the explanation?

NOW I am in favor of the legacy jump and the Mandan jump.

Just this seems so last minute, I wonder if the board got the QRF and knew the Shanley jump and the Legacy NO jump were going to cause a ruckus?

This is the first anyone is hearing of the tie breaker rule, just surprising BUT I like it... all in all needed a human to intervene but the bracket worked out.

The tiebreaker has always been used in MN...I assumed it would here as well but yes, the NDHSAA made it so secretive in everything that fans had no clue right away. When you check out the QRF FAQs on Minnesota site it's all there but the TB margin was also kept secret by NDHSAA; usually noted somewhere for MN late in season.
