It usually doesn't come out until just before or right at the start of the season. I know he was still compiling data as of the end of June. It mainly depends on when coaches get the information in.

Mr. Mahoney does a great job putting preview together and deserves a ton of credit for putting together an incredible resource for fans and coaches!!!!

I'll give props to Ray Maloney. He's doing a great job. Just can't wait to get my hands on it.

Any other books out there? Does WDAY/WDAZ TV still put one out?

I've got '04 and '05 versions. very good. prior to that there was a "gridiron" but i remember that book didnt hit the streets until about a week before the playoffs....seriously....which pretty much sealed their fate.

that certainly makes it easier to cast your predictions on how a team will do...

I don't know if I practiced more than anybody, but I sure practiced enough. I still wonder if somebody - somewhere - was practicing more than me.

It is in the hands of the printers right now. Unfortunately it will miss the first game but will still be a good resource. It should be out next week. That came directly from the author.

you know that's great and all, but how come the Hoopster is out a couple weeks before the season? FB season comes/goes quick. There are more classes for FB than BB and harder to get a read on the season ahead, let alone get the state wide schedules.

i might think twice about advertising in this again---

just my $.02

Try getting a hold of coaches in the summer. basketball coaches are in the same place for the months prior to the season, they are easier to contact. Football coaches are a lot tougher to get a hold of in the summer, if they are teachers they may have other jobs and if not they are doing whatever else it is that they do. Makes it tougher to get the information.

The info should be handed in prior to the summer. Coaches know who they have coming back by the middle of November.

Do they hand out the Bball stuff in March then. You can't guarantee who is and who isn't coming back. You make it sound so easy. People come and people go, players along with coaches, which is another reason it is hard. If you have a senior loaded team, which where your starters, you don't know who is going to start the next season until practice starts, that is if you are a moral coach and give each kid a fair shot. Plus, you have rollover in coaches. Strasburg has a new coach, Berthold does also, did they know who was going to start back in November let alone a month ago, probably not. I will say I am sticking up for Mr. Mahoney for all that he does with this preview. He doesn't have to do it!!!

1) name is Maloney

2) it's their choice to put it out there

3) our choice to advertise

4) if it doesnt come out before the season it's not a PRE-view

5) everyday after the season starts that it comes out advertisers are less likely to pony up again. theres a shelf-life that falls off as the season wears on

it's a beautiful day to get out and watch a game 2nite!

I remember handing my Bball picture in the summer during league. Thats about 4 months prior to the season. If someone transfers then they transfer, waiting to see if they come back just to put there name in a book makes no sense.  Do you see the hoopster naming starters? No. You dont need to tell your starting lineup in a preview book. If there is no coach at the time info can be handed in, you can contact the school and get a roster and show who is coming back and what not. I've seen it before in the hoopster. I think its a great book, but it should be out prior to the season.

Should be an awesome nite for opening Friday. Upper 60's with 10mph breeze. Perfect
