The NDHSAA website has begun listing pairings for the first round.

Their general bracket indicates they intend to seed the teams, at least the top four. Until that is done, the pairings would seem to be a bit premature, unless they are just going to pencil in the first round being a north vs south round in both halves of the state, and let the chips fall where they may after that.

Anyone know if that's the case?

QRF will be run tomorrow morning...they will shift the bracket once the seedings come out; going to guess they've been fielding questions on the bracket matchups...

I’ll take Region 2 and 4 sweeps in round one.

Hearing that NP vs FSHP is being played in Casselton. Probably see all of the east matchups in round 1 played on turf.

Per the NDHSAA playoff bracket, NP and FSHP are playing in Hope (Hope-Page HS) while Tri-State and NR-Sheyenne are playing in Central Cass.

From what I have heard, both games will be played at Central Cass on Satruday

Interesting topic from the Class A board- What if the entire bracket was seeded based 100% on QRF?

#16 LaMoure @ #1 Cavalier
#9 Mohall @ #8 Kidder County
#12 Beach @ #5 Linton HMB (Gave them the tie-breaker over MPCG Because of Region Champs)
#13 North Prairie @ #4 Ray/Powers Lake
#14 Tri-State @ #3- New Rockford/Sheyenne
#11 Grant County/Flasher @ #6 MayPort CG
#10 St. John @ #7 Central McLean
#15 Surrey @ #2 Finley-Sharon/Hope/Page

Geographically which matchups would be the longest first round match-ups? Who do you think would benefit the most if they did this? Who would this most negatively effect?

Interesting that in this scenario we have 3 Region Champs in the top half of the bracket.

It looks like all the same teams would host first round games that currently do as well.

I like this idea. Would like to make sure no round 1 matchups with teams from same region. Also make sure Region champions are guaranteed first round home game, would be pretty difficult to be lower than eighth and be a region champ tho lol

Moved NP and Beach around but have them keep their seeds

#16 LaMoure @ #1 Cavalier
#9 Mohall @ #8 Kidder County
#13 North Prairie @ #5 Linton HMB
#12 Beach @ #4 Ray/Powers Lake

#15 Surrey @ #2 Finley-Sharon/Hope/Page
#10 St. John @ #7 Central McLean
#14 Tri-State @ #3- New Rockford/Sheyenne
#11 Grant County/Flasher @ #6 MayPort CG

Beach to Cavalier or Tri-State to Divide County would be some long trips.

New Rockford benefits a lot, two home playoff games guaranteed vs one guaranteed.

I would be in favor of seeding 1-16 based on the formula (as long as they'd let us know what the formula is). Other states use cross bracketing, so we could as well.

Yep I've read that before, but it still doesn't give the exact formula. I know I've mentioned this before, but it really bothers me that it's not public.

NDHSAA & MSHSL want it hidden. My guess is take it up with the NDHSAA and see if they let you know the details. I know the just of it I just don’t know the formula number involved (and I’m within the sites as a score poster and employee for both state sites).

how many people know the formula? are there known flaws? What is said against the QRF from people who know the formula?

Exact formula...probably can count it on one hand.

ND doesn’t use it for much so I don’t actually hear much about it; MN has more of a grasp on it as it’s been around awhile...you catch on to the tendencies quicker. I usually know how things will move (knew how the Cav/NRS winner was going to shift drastically). The flaws tend to be complaints from people who don’t understand how it works...but it’s also not full proof prediction...that’s why you play the games.

I am going to use basketball as an example of a QRF flaw:
Two teams have the same record. These teams played each other four times, with one team winning three times, including the district and region championship games. The team that lost three times was still ranked 20 points higher after their third head to head loss.

There needs to be something in the formula that takes head to head games into account.

In ND, it doesn’t matter as its not used in basketball...in MN there is an exception to that scenario. Why waste time with it in ND if it’s not being used for anything?

I am just pointing out how I do not like how little head to head matters in the formula and used basketball as an example because teams play more games and are more likely to play the same oppenent multiple times.

Can anyone post exactly where and when the 9-man first round games are going to be? I've heard many games are being played on neutral fields on turf because of poor field conditions, especially in the East.

LaMoure @ Cavalier being played at Cushman in GF if I have heard correctly?

Tri-State @ New Rockford I heard may be played in Casselton? Kind of odd that the home team has to travel 140 miles and the visiting team about 90. Considering this could potentially be NR/S only "home" game in the play-offs, they could travel approximately 1600 miles round trip if they go to Casselton, to FSHP, to Ray/PL and then to the Fargodome.

It is officially in Casselton now...which benefits NR-S and their style of play even though they have to travel for the home game; game is a bit more centrally located now
