Don't you think Jack Ihry is probably the favorite senior athlete of the year?

He’s up there but I have no idea. I’m sure there are several great candidates from the other Regions also. But, speaking just on Region 1 - I haven’t seen anyone better.

I'm just thinking there aren't a lot of D1 FB commits playing 9 man football. Yeah, I know Cavalier has one too.

Sorry to get a bit off topic. And I know its a long ways away till the playoffs. But just had a question in regarding the playoffs. But how is the NDHSAA doing the playoffs I would think all sixteen teams play in the 1st Round. But which regions are the home team in the playoffs in the east is it R1 or R2, and west R3 or R4. NDHSAA website has the bracket but with every other bracket they have an overall seed.

1. If that's so their are four overall seeds. Then how would you fill the bracket out would the others be random draws (for example: say a region 2 team St. John plays the #4 overall seed, and that happens to be say Linton. Would that be right or will it be like the 2012 playoff format.

2. This is something like the 2012 playoff format when they had four regions. My example is part of question 2.

R1 #4 @ R2#1
R2 #3 # R1#2
R2 #4 @ R1#1
R1 #3 @ R2 #2

R3 #4 @ R4 #1
R4 #3 @ R3 #2
R4 #4 @ R3 #1
R3 #3 @ R4 #2

Would question 1 or 2 be right or would they both be wrong. Let me know very much appreciated thanks.

Next week some big match ups in regions 1 & 4 with:
LaMoure-L-M @ Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page
Linton-HMB @ Beach.

On Oct. 4 a potentially big game in Region 3
Ray-Powers Lake @ Central McLean

The 11th of October a #1 vs #2 match up in region 2
New Rockford-Sheyenne @ Cavalier

We could see some teams spread themselves away from the pack starting this week. A lot of close races for playoff positioning.

Top Seeds Rank (right now via QRF)
R2
R1
R3
R4

Therefore it would be
R1#4 @ R2#1 (#1 Overall)
R2#3 @ R1#2

R3#4 @ R4#1 (#4 Overall)
R4#3 @ R3#2

R2#4 @ R1#1 (#2 Overall)
R1#3 @ R2#2

R4#4 @ R3#1 (#3 Overall)
R3#3 @ R4#2

It allows for cross bracketing in the semifinals which doesn’t necessarily lead to an east/west guaranteed final...like Class A bracket last year that had Langdon & HCV (two east teams). Season could still end with east & west in same half of bracket but it allows for the opportunity to have some cross bracketing

Side Note: the QRF number will change/alter weekly

Another ranked team bit the dust. Hankinson gets their first win of the year by defeating undefeated LaMoure 20-14.

Looks like fourth ranked Beach got rolled by Kidder County 52-14. That leaves five unbeaten teams left:

Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page
New Rockford-Sheyenne
Cavalier
Central McLean
Linton-HMB

Beach receiving votes while Kidder County does not is interesting considering they are both one loss teams and Kidder County beat Beach 52-14 last week...

LaMoure-LM losing to a winless team and still receiving a vote(s) is also surprising whereas Ray/Powers Lake has been rolling along after a season opening loss and gets no credit...nice to see CM finally make the Top 5.

It is surprising that Beach & LaMoure-L-M are receiving votes. Those votes should have went Kidder County, and Ray-Powers Lake to go alongside St. John, and May-Port-CG.

Should have been:

1. New Rockford-Sheyenne
2. Cavalier
3. Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page
4. Central McLean
5. Linton-HMB

Receiving Votes: May-Port-CG, St. John, Ray-Powers Lake, & Kidder County.

To be honest I don't care about the polls. I said earlier in the year that the east was dominating the top 5. The sportscasters and sportswriters who do these polls. Needs to look at the entire state not just give one side of the state recognition over the other side. I agree its nice to see CM back in the top 5 for the 1st time since 2011 or 2012 I believe.

but it doesn't work like that. To say votes should have gone to KC, RPL, St. John and MPCG means you didn't vote for some team in your top 5.

I think the reason Ray-Powers Lake didn't receive a vote. Is because last week if I'm not mistaken they were up 6-0 on Berthold at half. And had a huge second to pull away 37-0.

My other question is say for example in region 4 were Linton hasn't lost and Beach as 1 loss. If they both have the same record the end of the season. Would they both be co-region champions or does it go by H2H tiebreaker. Let me know thanks.

This scenario is no longer an issue, but Kidder County and Grant County/Flasher are both 4-1 in the region and play each other on Oct. 11. Linton-HMB beat Kidder County and plays GC/F in the season finale on Oct. 19. Head to head is the tie-breaker so GC/F and Linton-HMB control their own destiny for the region title.
