In standings page...those with an ‘x’ by their name have clinched a playoff spot. I wasn’t going to do scenarios until after this week cause there are still some tight Regions

Winner of Richland and FSHP will get the #2 seed in Region 1 this Friday

FSHP beats Richland, loses to Hankinson and MPCG wins out. FSHP won't be #2.

If Larimore can get a W against NR-S. They get the number 1 seed out of region 2. If they come out with the same tenacity as they did against Cavalier, it will be a good game to watch.

Thompson has clinched Region 1 #1 Seed; that is the only CLINCHED spot going into this week. Many teams have earned playoff berths but have business to take care of for seeding.

Region 2's 4 seed could potentially be up for grabs on October 5th in Four Winds with Nelson County @ Four Winds!

Scenarios will become much clearer after Friday's games...so many spots up for grabs still

just a note, but Four Winds hasn't played any games at home this year. They had an issue with their field so they've played every game on the road.

I thought Napoleon/G-S clinched the #1 seed in Region 3 already? Even if they lose to Linton/HMB this week and Oakes wins both their remaining games, both would stand at 5-1 in region play with NGS owning the H2H tiebreaker over Oakes.

I'll get some official scenarios hopefully later today.

You are correct...I overlooked that one

This is what I got for scenarios. I didn't take a very deep dive (especially in Region 4) with these scenarios with some teams might have clinched based on deductive logic already, but I think I got most of them.

As in past years, let me know if I missed any!

NOTE: All records are for region games only. For Region 4, forfeits against Drake-Anamoose have been excluded from the records.

Region 1
Clinched: Thompson (#1 seed) and Richland

Richland (4-1) @ Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page (2-2)
  • Richland clinches Region 1 #2 seed and 1st round bye with a win
  • Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page clinches a playoff berth with a win AND a Hankinson loss

May-Port-CG (2-2) @ Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (0-4)
  • May-Port-CG clinches playoff berth with a win AND a Hatton/Northwood loss
  • May-Port-CG clinches the Region 1 #3 seed by clinching a playoff berth (see above) AND Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page lose

Region 2
Clinched: Larimore and New Rockford-Sheyenne

New Rockford-Sheyenne (3-0) @ Larimore (4-0)
  • Region 2 #1 seed
    • Larimore with a win
    • New Rockford-Sheyenne with a win AND a Cavalier loss

Cavalier (2-1) @ Nelson County (1-2)
  • Cavalier clinches a playoff berth with a win

Region 3
Clinched: Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter (#1 seed) and Oakes

South Border (0-4) @ Oakes (3-1)
  • Oakes clinches the Region 3 #2 seed with a win

LaMoure/Litchville-Marion (2-2) @ Kidder County (2-2)
  • Kidder County clinches a playoff berth with a win
  • Kidder County clinches the Region 3 #3 seed by clinching a playoff berth AND Oakes wins

Region 4
Clinched: None

North Star (2-1) @ St. John (3-0)
  • St. John clinches playoff berth and the Region 4 #1 seed with a win
  • Both teams clinch playoff berths with a Benson County loss

TGU (2-1) @ Benson County (1-2)
  • TGU clinches a playoff berth with a win

North Prairie (3-2)
  • North Prairie clinches playoff berth with a Benson County loss

Region 5
Clinched: New Salem/Glen Ullin, Shiloh Christian, and Richardton-Taylor/Hebron

Shiloh Christian (5-0) @ Richardton-Taylor/Hebron (4-1)
  • A Shiloh Christian win would give Richardton-Taylor/Hebron the Region 5 #3 seed

Region 6
Clinched: Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood, Ray/Powers Lake, Surrey

Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood (4-0) @ Ray/Powers Lake (4-0)
  • Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood clinches at least a 1st round bye if both Surrey and Divide County both lose
  • Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood clinches the Region 6 #1 seed a with a win
  • Ray/Powers Lake clinches the Region 6 #1 seed with a win AND a Surrey loss

Tioga (1-3) @ Divide County (2-2)
  • Divide County clinches a playoff berth with a win

North Prairie is in already as their region schedule is over and they defeated Benson County (52-15) & North Star (36-30) so they own those tiebreakers

What about Region 5? New Salem-GU, Shiloh Christian, Richardton-Taylor-Hebron are in.

Central McLean would clinch the #4 seed with win and a Beach loss. I wouldn't know how Grant County-Flasher would get in since CM owns the tiebreaker over GC-F. I think its down to Central McLean & Beach to get it.

This weeks games

(1-5) Mott-Regent-NE @ Central McLean (3-3)
(2-4) Grant County-Flasher @ Beach (2-4)

Next week

Central McLean @ Beach
Grant County-Flasher @ Mott-Regent-NE

Central McLean, Beach and GC-F are all still alive for the 4 seed. Both Beach and Central McLean can get in by winning out (they play each). GC-F would get in if they win out and Central McLean losses out. These three teams could also tie for the 4th spot.

I'm just looking at the scenario this week.

If CM defeats Mott-Regent-NE &
Grant County-Flasher defeats Beach CM would clinch. Wouldn't matter what GC-F does the final week. (CM owns tiebreaker over GC-F). But I agree the only way gets GC-F if they win out. I know if they all tie in goes by point differential.

If Central McLean beats Mott-Regent-NE and GC-F beats Beach this week the standings for region games would be: CM 3-3, Beach 2-4, GC-F 2-4. CM would not clinch in your scenario as they could lose to Beach and have the same record (3-4) as Beach with Beach having the tiebreaker. GC-F could also even themselves to a 3-4 record with wins over Beach and M-R-NE, which would give you a threeway tie.

You asked for the scenarios and we have given them to you...that includes your beloved CM losing a game. Sniper is right...Sorenson your standings are not accurate either.

Correct Standings
New Salem-Glen Ullin 5-0
Shiloh Christian 5-0
Richardton-Taylor-Hebron 4-1
Central McLean 2-3
Beach 2-3
Grant County-Flasher 1-4
Hettinger-Scranton 1-4
Mott-Regent/New England 0-5

My bad I wasn't going by the region standings. I just thought the winner of CM/GC-F would have a better chance of getting the #4 seed. But Mott-Regent-NE could play spoiler this week. We're in for an interesting final two weeks. The battle for the 4th spot plus the Region 5 Championship featuring the Skyhawks and Holsteins.

Even with New Salem-GU WR Soupir out I still think New Salem-GU will defeat Shiloh by 3 scores at most. Like I said I'd be very surprised if the Holsteins aren't in the Dakota Bowl.

Anything can happen. Anyone can beat anybody on any given night.

Region 1 will have a lot of variability in the next couple weeks. It is interesting that Hankinson is currently the 6 seed, but controls their own destiny. If Hankinson beats Hatton-N this week and FSHP next week, they would sneak into the 4 seed and hold tiebreakers over both H-N and FSHP.

Now I'm not talking class A. But when was the last time Linton-HMB missed the 9man playoffs. I'm not saying they won't clinch a playoff berth. But has to be a long time ago.

Caserace’s website is great for questions like this...1994

Going a bit off topic here, Linton's program since the playoff era in 1975 has only had one season at or below .500. That was in 1998 where they finished 4-5 (lost in the first round of the playoffs to North Central Benson). That is pretty dang impressive also.

Ok, back to live action...

The last time Linton missed the playoffs (A or B) was 1994 when they were Class B 11-Man. The last time they missed the playoffs in 9-Man was in 1978. Only one team in the conference advanced to the playoffs in 9-Man from 1974-84, and Linton Did not make the playoffs from 1974-78. However, Napoleon (1975) and Zeeland (1977 & 78) were in Linton's conference when they won State titles and Linton beat Napoleon in 75 and Zeeland in 78. Since 1979, Linton missed the Class B 11-Man playoffs in 1987, 1992 and 1994. 3 times in 40 years. They never missed the playoffs in Class A (2005-14).

Contradicted myself. The last time Linton missed the playoffs in 9-Man was in 1994. They were Class B 11-Man from 1987-92. Missed the playoffs in 1987, 1992 (Class A 11-Man) and 1994 (9-Man).

Considering the ups and downs of small town enrollments, plus the swings you can have from one year to the next in size, speed, talent and ability of a bunch of high school boys, that is an incredibly impressive stretch for Linton!

I wonder if Linton's long-time head coach had anything to do with that run? Probably not, he was just an average coach. Nobody probably even remembers his name. Joking of course!
