It's not the rain, it's the lightning.

My understanding of the rule is that if officials see lightening, the game must be suspended until there is a 30 minute period with no lightning. Each time more lightning is spotted, the 30 minute clock starts over. So you can see how it could get to be a very long night if that storm is slow moving.

Yes this is the case. Sometimes one 30 minute delay is enough and other times you might end up sitting for hours. Especially when the game is already decided it is best to call the game if it is that late into it.

Is it just me or is Richland flying under the radar a little bit. I know they received votes but they only lost to Thompson by 5 points. Seems they should be ranked in the top five at least.

Possible but since there are still 5 or more teams with 0 losses I'm not shocked as some voters look at records first instead of close games vs. those undefeated teams.

It sounded like they very easily could have beat Thompson but we're also very fortunate to have won the games against mayville and hankinson, so they could easily have 3 losses also. I think the West is new Salem's to lose, but the east has plenty of teams capable of coming out of the bracket.

That's true. They have been in some close games.

It was mentioned in another thread that Thompson is the clear #1, but I could be convinced it's NSGU. I thought I read 14 returning seniors off a team that was #3 in the final poll last year that doesn't happen often in 9 man football.

W-L last year... and Yes, a SR (more than 10) lead team is HUGE

I wouldn't rule out Napoleon as the best team either. Thompson's game is based on speed while NGSU is very physical. If they played on a windy cold day, I would give the Imperials the advantage after seeing both play. Both QBs tough to stop, very elusive. Thompson is better offensively, NGS defensively. I know NRS is good but I am not sure teams that like to throw every down equals winning big playoff games due to cold weather, wind and playing conditions. You might get lucky and get a nice day and good field but I wouldn't bank on it. I haven't seen the Western teams play but the East rules until proven otherwise. One injury to any of the top teams at QB and they all would be in trouble as far as winning state.

If you look at common opponents I don't think they belong in the discussion.
Beat FSHP by 8. Thompson beat FSHP by 28.
Beat KC by 12. NSGU beat KC by 46.

Not making excuses for the imperials but fshp was first game of the year and kc was without 2 of there best players against nsgu so that game would of been closer

I am telling you, when the chips are down, NGS will show up. Alot of hard-nosed wrestlers are on that team. I don't think it's always spot on comparing scores. Alot depends on matchups, injuries. Playoff football is a big difference between first game of the season, even though I have the utmost respect for Thompson. Whoever comes out of the east, will definitely be battle tested. West, not so much IMHO

I'm not saying NGS has no shot to win a title. I'm saying when you take a look at the results they have no reason to be in the discussion for #1 team in the poll.

I think Nap was more solid 2 seasons ago and last season in comparison to this season....
but they are always hard-nosed for sure....

They should of beat Thompson, just had to run the ball the game was over, as for the Mayville and Hankinson games, when you have about 12 kids that can play football, any win is a good a good win. Depth is huge in football, that's w-l won last year!!

So are Thomp & NSGU equivalent to W-L and Cavalier last season in regards to the 2 teams to beat?

I would say NSGU is a very big favorite from the west. Unsure about the eastern teams.

I don't think so. I don't think there was any question last year that the champ would be W/L or Cavalier. This year I think there is a legitimate chance that NSGU could win it. I would probably take NSGU over any individual team in the east before the playoffs start. I think an east team will win it, but the east has multiple teams (Thompson, NRS, Napoleon, and Richland) that could win it all, and only one can get to the big game.

I think last years W/L team would win again vs this years teams. But I don't think it would be a slam dunk vs all of top teams.

Agree with all of this, but I think NGSU wins it all. I think Thompson is the east favorite, but will have tough games vs NRS and NGS.

I agree with this. I think NSGU will walk through the west, I don't know much about region 6, but I don't see anything to make me think that NSGU will be challenged. I think this is the year the west gets it done in the dome as well. I don't know anything about the east, I was just very impressed watching New Salem/Glen Ullin.

Region 4 didn't have any great teams either. Some good teams, but no one that is going to challenge for a trip to the championship.

I do agree nsagu should and will get there. This group is very senior heavy and got a chip on there shoulder. Don't know a lot about the east teams, but this team is stacked. Barring a major meltdown, they should advance. By the way if zuroff kid ever plays a whole game and touches the rock about 25 times. Look out. Kid is a animal
