Way too early next year.

Just wondering who will be tough next year and who has alot of returning starters. I think Napoleon-GS has almost their entire team back, Thompson has plenty of skill players back, Shiloh has QB and RB back, New Salem has QB back, Cavalier has about half their team back with a few big shoes to fill. Richland returns whole team, Mayport has alot returning. I think the power will definitely be in the east again. Any thoughts, predictions.

Region 5 next year

New Salem-GU
Shiloh Christian
Mott-Regent
Central McLean
Grant County-Flasher
Beach
Hettinger-Scranton
Richardton-T-H

I see New Salem-GU & Shiloh for the region crown again. With the Holsteins easily winning it this year 42-20 over Shiloh. New Salem with everybody back from last year's team could be ranked as high as #2 in the state. And if the #1 ranked team falls then it's their to take.

Oakes made the playoffs playing almost all freshmen this year (they should be good next year and really tough in 2 or 3 years). Wyndmere Lidgerwood graduates just about everyone (had 13 seniors or so who played most of their minutes) but has championship experience and strong program so it will be interesting to see if they can be competitive. Mayport should be tough, after making a really good run at the end of the year it will be interesting to see if they can build on that. Shiloh should be tough (they lose key players but always have a strong program). Cavalier loses some really important pieces but returns kids who have had a lot of success so it will depend on who they can get to step up.

Here are my top 4 from each side of the state.
East
1. Napoleon - Return most of there team and is well coached
2. Thompson - bring back their skill guys. If they can replace some O/Dline watch out
3. Cavalier - lost a lot, but Laxendal at QB will make them competitive and this team just knows to to compete
4. Hankinson - played a lot of young guys. Always tough defensively
5. Richland - they return a good nucleous of players returning with experience
Other good teams
1- Linton
2- new Rockford
3- Mayport
4. Wyndmare

West
1. New salem - should represent the West easily. They bring back their entire team and all their big playmakers
2. North Prairie- brings back most their line and has good skill kids. Will need one to ve a difference maker
3- Shiloh- has to replace The entire OL, but bring back a good RB and QB
4- MLS- bring back a lot of kids.
5- Mott- a year under their belt in the coop will benefit them greatly. Know what they have to work with
Other good teams
1. St. John’s
2- divide county
3- North Star
4. TGU

region 1

1. Hankinson OR Thompson - Both are bringing back really good and strong key players, it will be a shootout between those two
2. Hankinson OR Thompson - same as above
3. Mayport - with them being young they will be strangely good this year and in the future
4. Wyndmere Lidgerwood - has good players still, and with the momentum of a state championship behinde them, we dont know what that will do
5. Hatton-Northwood - i am not too familiar with this team
6. FSHP - With jake ihry coming back after a second team all state season as a sophomore they will have a running game for sure as long as he stays injury free, not too sure on the rest of the team
7. Richland - not saying anything on the situation, just not going to be good in my opinion

1. Toss up between Napoleon and Cavalier. I think it comes down to who puts the time in the off season.
2. Thompson
3. New Salem
4. Mayville
5. New Rockford

Cavalier should have really strong upper-end talent but I heard they are short on numbers. If that is true I will take Napoleon as the early favorite. Napoleon, Cavalier, and Thompson should all be strong. New Salem, Mayville, Richland, Hankinson, Shiloh, and Oakes are some other teams to watch.

My preseason top 5 would be:

1. Napoleon
2. Cavalier
3. New Salem
4. Thompson
5. Hankinson

Cavalier has 19 listed on their roster. That must be pretty average for 9 man.

Last year it seemed like it was destined to be WL or Cavalier (maybe Thompson), but this year it feels wide open, unless Thompson crushes everyone, which is a definite possibility.

I totally agree. I still think there are some favorites/leaders but it could be anyones game.

NSGU has an ugly chip on they’re shoulder. If they don’t meet Thompson before the championship then I think it’s an NSGU vs Tommies championship game with NSGU coming out on top. But we’re 2 games in the season so this is a “way too early” this year prediction.

They cannot meet Thompson before the championship as Thompson plays in the East and New Salem-Almost-GU plays in the West.
