Has anyone seen how they actually figure the QRF rating? I don't see anything on the ndhsaa site, or are we just using Minnesota's?

it's run by the same guy, so I assume the formula is the same. He'll never give out the formula.

edit: rankings http://northdakota-scores.net/classqrf. ... 4&class=33

Know this...the number will change each week as past opponents record plays a role in the ranking. 1st rankings are always iffy as the sample size is still small

Plus many of the undefeated teams have beat teams with one or no wins. I think the only exception would be Thompson and Cavalier. Although other than playing each other they are in the same boat. Lots of good games coming up in the next few weeks.

Pretty hard to trust a formula that is kept secret.

It's not necessarily a secret...the just of the formula is described on the website that runs it...along with other FAQs (asked more for MN but it's been effective there).

Games are still played on the fields/courts/pitch/etc but it does show strength effectively...

Run, I respectfully disagree. A formula is given but the values for x and y are not defined. Hence, secret.
I can point out obvious flaws with the rankings even beyond what has been talked about already.

If you win:

X points for winning the game based on opponent Class

Y points times number of opponent wins based on opponent’s opponents Class

If you lose:

Y/3 points times number of opponent wins based on opponent’s opponents Class

This calculation happens for every game, then averaged out to the QRF number you see online.

Once the average QRF is determined, it is compared to the average QRF of every other team in the State, and put into ranking order.

It's not available to the public but I'm sure other higher-ups know it. That was also explained on the site.

I believe 'X' & 'Y' would be same number for all in respective classes as there was no cross-class playing this year thanks to AA being only 10 teams

The problem here is that no matter what system gets used...you will never please everyone.
