I'm expecting 6 of the 8 games to be blowouts with Cavalier, NRS, WL, KB, TGU and SJ winning.
In the other two games I'll take L-HMB by 6 and HS by 12.
I don't know much about either Richland or LHMB so that's just a guess and Hettinger-Scranton has so many injuries I think that's the only reason that game ends up being close.

I think everyone picked the winners correct and I will take linton to win in a close game. None of the other games will be within 20 points.

Picks playoff week 1:

Game 1: Linton over Richland in a close game. Richland has a tough time stopping teams from scoring.
Game 2: Cavalier by 20
Game 3: Kidder Cty by 1 over NRS
Game 4: Wyndmere in a blowout
Game 5: Hettinger-Scranton by 2
Game 6: Kenmare by 26
Game 7: TGU by 18
Game 8: St. John by 4 over Bowman County

I could be wrong, but I see half the games as close contests this week.

Several blowouts this week...Eastern half of bracket could have two close games (G1 & G3)...some intriguing matchups in the western half of bracket but home teams should prevail

I think your right. Once you start mixing regions its not so easy to predict blowouts. Middle of the road teams in one region could be towards the top in another.

a lot of 7-1 teams....how do they determine which one plays first round?

The region champions get a first round bye. The runner-up in two pre-selected regions (one each the east and west sides of the bracket) gets the other two byes. The NDHSAA determines who gets the byes before the season starts. Last season, the Region 1 and 6 runners-up got a bye. This season, the Region 3 and 5 get a bye.

Personally, I don't like the pre-selected regions getting the bye. I like a point system to determine the bye for runner-up.

Why? So some of these teams will run the scores up more than they do already. Running scores up to 70-0 is a good thing? I guess it looks good on the stats sheet at the end of the year.

He wasn't meaning point system as score related. I'm assuming he was thinking a points system like Minnesota (QRF) or South Dakota use...some sort of formula set to rank.

South Dakota's seed points system is below:

* Seed points awarded based on opponent's win percentage (opponent's wins divided by opponent's number of games played)
Opp. Win Pct. Pts. for Win Pts. for Loss
.750 and above 50 39
.500 - .749 47 36
.250 - .499 44 33
.249 and below 41 30

South Dakota's system is pretty darn fair, I know they get bonus points for playing a team from a class higher (9 man B to 9 man A for example). Score has nothing to do with their formula. What I like best about it is you get the same amount of points for beating a poor team (under .250 and in your division) as you would for losing to a good team from up a division (.750+ and at least 1 classification higher).

It also makes it unique in that you don't have to play every team in your region, in fact I was looking on SDHSAA.com the other day (by the way, WAY better then our website) and there are some teams that don't even play a single team in their region for football.

I would suggest that NDHSAA look at the powerpoint formula as a way to seed all of our state stuff, but that would probably pass the district chairs meeting 14-2 and get voted down by the board as well.

I like Michigan's Playoff Point system. You get points for victories based on the opponents classification (A = 80, B = 64, C = 48, D = 32) with no points for a loss.

But no matter what, each game also has bonus points based on AdjOppW (Adjusted Opponent Wins - a win would be the Opponent Wins and a loss would be the Opponent Wins - 1) times a multiplier (1 for a loss and 8 for a win), then you would divide that by the number of opponent games to get a Bonus Point Average value. Add the point value to the BP Average to get Playoff Points for that game (losses would only get bonus points).

Take the Playoff Points from all the games played and divide it by the number of games played to get Total Playoff Points.

Here are a couple links for some examples:

I like it, a bit more complicated though. Pretty much any system would make sense that actually values who you play and how good they are.

According to their handbook there is no bonus points for football...NDHSAA doesn't like change that seems to be for the better
