I have seen a few of these teams play and I just don't think Mott and Shiloh are good enough to get to the championship. I know it is early and teams get better, but if what I am hearing about cavalier and thompson is true I think both those teams can beat with Shiloh or Mott. I am not sold that they will both be #1 seeds from there regions yet. Based on last year and what I have seen in games and heard about teams I am going with thompson to win the championship

I could see a Mott vs Thompson championship. I think Shiloh is tough but not Thompson tough.

Agreed, Thompson is the best team in the State. But I don't see them beating Cavalier twice in the same season. And Shiloh has an easier path in their bracket. Region 5 is the toughest region right now and Mott should be battled tested enough to endure a few tough matches in the playoffs. North Prairie is the toughest test out west for them. Haven't seen who NP's new QB is this year but they had enough talent coming back to be championship level again. I will change and update this as the year progresses. Thompson does need to stay injury free this year to avoid being upset. But they play Cavalier early enough that I think they will beat them the first time, then their schedule gets a little tougher than Cavalier's. An injury or two and they won't beat Cavalier in the Quarters of the Playoffs.

I know you put a lot of time in doing this, but I would highly doubt that bowman makes the playoffs

I agree...I see Hettinger-Scranton making the postseason from R5 over Bowman County.

I think the winner out of Thompson-Cavalier wins it all. I think it will be an offensive shootout. Both teams are tough at home and whoever wins the regular season matchup has homefield throughout. Thompson has the experience and homefield but I think Cavalier is more balanced and has alot of room to improve with their youth. Hankinson, Shiloh, Richland, WL, Napoleon-Gackle Streeter all are good teams who I am sure are very capable of beating anyone but am not sure they have the offensive firepower of these two.

Sad thing is parshall white shield might sneak in playoffs lol seen couple of there games and they got some quickness but they are so small compared to teams like divide Kenmare and mohall..that game between parshall and Tioga should be a good one tho

Parshall could be the #4 seed out of Region 6. All that would mean is that they will get to match up with the #2 from Region 4, St. John or TGU, in the 1st round of the playoffs. So they would get beat by 60 points. But I think they will beat Trenton and will have a shot at Tioga. If they win those two games they will be in the playoffs.

I'm not sure region 5 is as good as people thought before the season started. I think New Salem is a State Title contender, and that is it. Region 4 has 3 legit teams this year that could all compete for a title. Region 6 only has two teams that could compete with another region, MLS and Kenmare, and neither of them have shown they can win out of region 6 in two years.
Out east, Region 1 is down. Outside of Richland and Hankinson no other team will make any noise in the playoffs. Region-2 has 3 legit teams with Cavalier, Thompson, and New Rockford. I think all three are state title contenders. Region 3 is Shiloh. I'm not sure South Border and Napoleon can make any noise in the playoffs, but we will see. 3 more regular season games left.

I'll try to make sense of the Region 5 situation-

Richardton-Taylor/Hebron 2-2 Region (Loses to BC and NSGU) (left vs B, @ GCF)
Beach 0-4 Region (Loses to HS, NSGU, BC, MR) (left vs. GCF, @RTH)
New Salem Glen Ullin 3-0 Region (left vs. MR, @ BC, vs. HS)
Bowman County 2-1 Region (lost to GCF) (left @HS, vs NSGU, @MR)
Mott-Regent 2-1 Region (lost to RTH) (left @NSGU, vs. HS, vs BC)
Grant County/Flasher 1-3 Region (lost to HS, NSGU, MR) (left @B, vs RTH)
Hettinger/Scranton 2-1 Region (lost to RTH) (left vs. BC, @ MR, @NSGU)

Ok, wow, even more confusing once I actually see it all in front of me. My thoughts and opinions are just that, not trying to upset anyone. For our purposes I am going to eliminate Beach from playoff contention (having 4 losses I think will do that in this region).

What I see each team doing the remaining games is just a prediction:

NSGU will win out and finish at 6-0 in the region
HS will beat BC and MR and lose to NSGU to finish at 4-2 in the region
MR will lose to NSGU and HS, beat BC to finish at 3-3 in the region.
RTH will beat Beach and lose to GCF which will make their record 3-3 in region.
GCF will win out and finish at 3-3 in the Region
BC will lose their next 3 games and finish 2-4 in the region.

Reasons I see this happening
1. RTH has injury problems
2. BC is very young and very talented, however I feel that they will struggle containing Kludt this week and the combo of Wegh/Wallace next week
3. GCF has a couple of studs who I think will push them past Beach and RTH
4. MR has a couple of studs who can push them past BC, but not enough depth to get by HS or NSGU
5. HS has the best player in the region in Kludt who will get them past BC and MR, but NSGU has depth
6. NSGU is the deepest team in the region

Things that could change and throw a monkey wrench into things
1. RTH gets healthy, wins out and finishes 4-2
2. BC comes out ready to go and beats HS and/or MR to finish at 3-3/4-2 in region
3. GCF beats Beach, loses to RTH and finishes 2-4
4. MR slips up against BC or beats both BC and HS and finishes anywhere between 2-4 and 4-2
5. HS is the X-factor here IMO, if Kludt gets the touches, they win then next two weeks and set up a game in New Salem that could be for the region title
6. NSGU I think is the best team in this region, the only way IMO they get beat is by HS because Kludt goes off.

Basically, this region is going to come down to the final week. This is truly a toss up.

You could be correct on that one! If I would have known that Hettinger/Scranton and Mott Regent (didn't even make the playoffs) would have the injury problems they did I wouldn't have thought that! I think NSGU will win, and RTH is going to be in a battle. I should probably stay away from football predictions, I'm not good at them haha

All four games in the west could look to be pretty close. I was also thinking R5 could have both teams in the semis lol

I don't know much about your neck of the woods and the Northwest, I've heard that St. John is ground and pound this year? I've heard that TGU and North Prairie are both pretty solid as well. From Region 6 I know that Divide county is young, but pretty solid (got to watch them play this week, was very impressed with their offense.) I watched some tape on DC and MLS and MLS dominated, looked to me that turnovers were huge in that game. And I know that Kenmare likes to chuck the rock all over the field. From region 5 I know that RTH is finally getting healthy and NSGU looks to be a very solid team and my pick to make it to the dome from the west. It's just so difficult in football to compare regions, as not many cross-regional games happen after week one.

Yes, St. John is ground and pound this year, triple option offense. Starting running back has been out last two games and might miss Saturday as well. Divide over Hettinger was the biggest surprise this weekend. Region 6 may be a little better than everyone thought and 5 down some mostly due to injuries. I think TGU will be a tough out for NSGU or anyone in the west.

I think Region 5 was underestimated last season as they had the best post season record of any region. And that carried over to this season. New Salem is a good football team. Outside of them though I don't see the other teams having much success. I think all of the Region 6 schools that are still in the playoffs were very young last season and are now older and more experienced. One of the advantages the region 6 schools have is they all play about 3-4 really bad teams, and this gives them a chance to heal up and reduce some of the milage on their starters. In region 5 teams 2-6 are all about the same, there is no cupcake outside of Beach. So they take a pretty good beating in about 5-6 games, depending on their non conference games. And the same can be said for region 4, outside of the top 3 teams, the others are pretty bad. So they don't get beat up as bad.

The real question is of the remaining 8 teams out west, who has the best chance to beat the winner from the east? North Prairie seems like the most complete team. New Salem might have the best running game. MLS might have the best defense. Kenmare might have the best offense. St. John might be the most battle tested. I'm not sure TGU and Richardton have the talent, but both seem to have good coaching. I think it will all be a little clearer after Saturday.
