Well football withdrawals are finally over! Let's here from everyone what they think about region strength or top ten guesses. Are there any true power houses this year or is it more balanced?

Region strength from toughest to easiest
5
3
2
4
1
6

Top ten

1. Thompson
2. ? Maybe Cavalier
3. ?
4. ?
5. ?
6. ?
7. ?
8. ?
9. ?
10. ?

I know it's way to early to say but let's see what everyone thinks.

Hettinger-Scranton looked very impressive on offense against WL yesterday. Kludt rushed for 358 on 18 carries and 6 tds. They lost 3 all staters last year so I'm not really sure what people expect from them this year. If they can figure out the defensive side a little bit (much better in 2nd half yesterday) by gaining some experience on the back end they could be a very tough out come playoff time. Their offense looks as if they can score with anyone (I know it's early in the season).

I was expecting a closer game between New Salem and Shiloh and thought Napoleon might have slipped some this year. If your a team in region 5 or 3 this year you better show up in full form because no team is gonna lay down for ya. Should be fun to watch if Shiloh can stay on top this year

Another other teams that looked impressive was central Mclean and kidder county, both from the same region I think. Both bring back almost all their starters and they both dominated this weekend.

Central Mcclean beat Tioga 38-16. I am willing to bet Napoleon will beat Central Mclean by 30 points next week and Tioga will lose to Kenmare by 40 or more points.

That's a big prediction. McLean has almost all there guys back I believe. Napoleon did look good at te jamboree so it wouldn't surprise me if Napoleon won, but I would assume it will be pretty close regardless of who wins

Agreed. I think CM vs NGS will be a good game

Small Sample Size...but I just used the comparison that Linton played a decent R-T-H team relatively close...whereas SB played a lower end SC and snuck out with a win. Again...the more weeks played, the more we'll truly know.

What do people think the upset of the week will be? I going with kidder county over Shiloh by a large margin. Saw Shiloh at that jamboree last week and outside a couple big runs couldn't do anything offensively. There defense played alright, but I don't think they can be physical enough to stay with kidder.

Let's hear what others think could Be the upset of the week.

Honestly I'm not familiar with who's supposed to be a top team (outside of Thompson). In the two games between top 9 teams from Run's list I'll take St. John to beat North Prairie and Hettinger-Scranton to beat Richardton Taylor Hebron, both games will be shootouts IMO. I also hope that Bowman County can surprise Lemmon (most people on this board probably aren't familiar with Lemmon, but I think they will be pretty good this season).

I don't think anyone knows. At this point, it's mostly a guessing game until a couple games are played. Every year is a new year and things like injuries and different offensive schemes play into what teams will be on top. Region 3 will probably be the most competitive this year out of all the regions. More will probably be known after Friday night for sure. I'm gonna pick Kidder co over Shiloh just for the heck of it. After this year they will be 11 man so they are gonna try to make a run for that 9-man title.

I also think Kidder Co over Shiloh is a good possible upset game. I think KC was young last year and they looked well coached. One might call this game of the week

I'd say its one of the Games of the Week for 9-man...I think there are 5 of them this week (ordered):

Kidder County @ Shiloh
St. John @ North Prairie
Cavalier @ North Star
Richardton-Taylor-Hebron @ Hettinger-Scranton
Central McLean @ Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter

Hoping to have updates tonight from across the State on my twitter (@NDScores) and updates on www.northdakota-scores.net for each quarter break (or at least Half & Finals; refreshing the scoreboard page is required if checking this way).

Agreed. I'm sure some people are thinking less of New Salem Glen Ullin after their loss to Shiloh, don't sleep on this team, they will be tough

RTH 28 HS 20: this game started off with a bang for HS, early 12-0 lead. RTH got the ball back late in the second quarter when I didn't think they would, they made the most of it scoring before halftime. RTH took a 14-12 lead and then extended it to 20-12, HS tied the game on a gutsy drive. RTH found the end zone with under 30 seconds to go to seal the deal.

Things I took away from this game:
RTH has one of the best coaches in the state, he had his boys ready to go.
Isaiah Kludt is a very special football player, RTH did a great job to hold him to under 200 yards rushing and under 300 yards from scrimmage.
Butterfield from RTH is a very gutsy athlete, very impressed with his heart and determination.
These are two teams that will be in the thick of things come playoff time, Region 5 is a very tough region.

Some very surprising outcomes last night
Drake anamoose 12-8 over surrey. Wow did anyone think this wouldn't be a 50-0 blow out
NSGU over GC big time!
Cav vs NS was close at half. What happened
CM vs Napoleon was 20-28 in 4th qtr. What happened
Kidder Co didn't do as well as expected
St. John vs NP must have been an awesome game to watch!

In answer to the Kidder County quesion: According to the Bismarck sports, KC QB broke his leg in the first half of the game.

My understanding of North star game with Cavalier was Northstar was leading at end of third quarter but Northstar quarterback was hurt in the fourth quarter and that changed the game significantly for Cavalier. Northstar quarter back injured his throwing arm was unable to pass ball anymore for team that is pass orientated. Cavalier may still have won the game but like I said early this year I thought NorthStar could be sleeper team.

Cavalier lost one of their best players early in the game and Komrosky played the entire game and didn't seem like he had any trouble throwing. That being said, North Star looked very good, but Cavalier's pass rush got better at containment and tackling. I wouldn't be surprised to see a rematch in the playoffs somewhere down the line. There were times when Cavalier had 4-5 freshmen on the field at the same time. Look out for them in the future. I was very impressed with Heisler, Lagasse, Dugdale and NS line much better than last year. You have to pick your poison with Cavalier, they are very run-pass balanced.

Good take. NS qb got a stinger to the elbow late in the 3rd then took a helmet to the hand a few plays later. Had no feeling in his throwing hand. With that said, great game for 3 quarters. IMHO, Cavalier simply seemed to get stronger. They have great football tradition and can tell they put in a lot of time in the weight room during the off season. They don't have the numbers as in years past and as stated above, are quite young. So that much more impressive. Very fun game to watch. Was very sad to see Cav's RB go down early in the game. Hope he is doing ok. Thoughts and prayers are with him.
