9 man back to 8 regions. Was that always the plan for this next cycle?

I listened to the Wahpeton AD on Dom Izzo's podcast from today. He was a little upset that Wahp was not approved to move down to A, but seemed way more frustrated this plan was ever put into place a couple years ago. He proposed going back to the prior plan with a (roughly) 16-16-32 team split for the 3 classes of 11 man. I assume he strongly believes North, South, the GF schools and Dickinson should be in the biggest class.

It seems to me that would then force a few 9 man teams into 11 man, which then just pushes Wahps problems onto someone else. There are always gonna be "big" schools and "small" within each class.

Wahpeton and VC like pushing their problems onto other schools

I feel like VC and CC will flip divisions next year

The Cavalier AD (MItch Greenwood) was on Dom Izzo this morning. I agree with Mitch and Dom that the "success points" stuff is not the best route. It forces teams up a class based on success. It's kind of a punishment.

Conversely, I also think it is good policy to allow teams to petition (and get approval from the committee) to opt down to a lower class if they've had a really bad run for a few years. Then I think success points should come into play for those that opt down -- if they have a few good years and hit X amount of success points, then they should move back up to the class that their enrollment places them in.

Voluntary opt-ups? ALWAYS a good policy!!!!! :)

I agree with this also. It's especially difficult in the 9man to 11man jump. Fargo North getting bumped up to AAA due to success rate is no problem with me. Their enrollment compares just fine at that level and if you've had success beating up on the Watford City, Turtle Mountain, Valley City, Whap, etc go up and play the big boys where you are much more suited anyway.

Late getting back to the board on this, but Dickinson was just not able to match up with Kindred physically. The championship game was played the week prior when Kindred knocked out Langdon once again. That appeared to be a great matchup with excessive turnovers likely causing the Cardinals a state title. They really do have a tremendous program going in Langdon. They'll be challenged to keep it going with the talent they are losing and not being one of the bigger enrollment schools in the division. I often post about the NDHSAA not being brave enough to do the right thing by having the Class A state tournament in the SHAC instead of Fargodome so I better tip my cap to them when they do a great job. They did just that when they moved the semifinal game from Kindred to Fargo North. I watch most of that game online and it was fun to see the athletes have a perfect playing surface for such an important game. Great job NDHSAA!!!
