Games of the week...


Velva/Garrison @ Des Lacs-Burlington . With Velva's game last week I think I am right. They are very good team but not one of the top 6 teams in the state. I think Des Lacs-Burlington wins this one at home 24 to 18

Bowman County @ Beulah.... I don't know what happened to Beulah this past week... Injuries/Sickness or just did not match up with DT.... BUT we will find out if Bowman County is for real this week. I don't think they are so I say Beulah 36 to 12.

Oaks and Sargent County playing for who makes the playoff's. Oaks QB went down last week and I don't know if he will be back but I will take SC throwing the ball to victory this week and making the playoffs.

Games to watch:

- Oakes @ Sargent County: Both teams are fighting with missing guys from what I hear. Sargent County played a ton of young kids last week. I trust Oakes depth more than SC largely because of numbers (42 to 28). When you get to a situation where both sides are missing important pieces I think the team with more options often comes out ahead on the backups. Oakes wins a good one 30 to 24.

- Nedrose @ Bishop Ryan: Nedrose is in the middle of a really strong season after establishing their program the last few years. This is a chance to show they are a quality team and knock off the big dog. Interested to see how Nedrose handles it. Their only two loses are close ones to Velva and Des Lacs. I think it is good for a while but Bishop Ryan pulls away late 38 to 20.

- Velva @ Des Lacs: Real interesting matchup late in the season. Velva is coming off a tough tough loss to Bishop Ryan that has people questioning how real deal they are. Des Lacs only loss was also to Bishop so comp. games are real comparable. I think this is a good one but still think Velva has enough to get this done. Would be pretty surprised if they make a deep playoff run though. Velva wins 24 to 18.

- Bowman County @ Beulah: Bowman has only lost to Shiloh and it is a tough loss. A Bowman win would open up a likely 3 way tie for the region title. I think Beulah has too many weapons wins the line of scrimmage to take the solo grown. Beulah wins 30 to 12.

I have reports that Beulah, Kindred and HCV are all resting kids this week. Getting them healthy before playoffs. SO there might be some upsets in those games that we are not expecting.

It would make sense if Kindred and HCV rest kids, they already have their seeds locked up. Wouldn't make sense for Beulah to do the same as they haven't clinched for sure (they probably will, but you never know).

I highly doubt anyone is going to risk losing a game at this point when playoffs are being seeded by a coaches vote. Beulah is the only undefeated team in the division and as mentioned previously, this game means the difference between being region champion or not. If they win they very likely get the #1 seed and home field advantage throughout playoffs. If they lose, they take 2nd in their region and that would most likely mean a road playoff game.

I could see these coaches pulling starters pretty early if/when the game is in hand, but I don't foresee anyone risking losing a game by not playing their best players.

If a player is banged up then I could see them maybe resting some (not all key players)...because those schools also have something that most other schools don't have...Depth. Early substitutions may also occur to give youth some extra experience.

I sure hope Beulah goes into this thinking Bowman is a pushover...cause then they will struggle; much like they probably did last week over a non-playoff bound Trinity. Bowman County is solid and will pose them some troubles if they aren't ready.
