Per the football regulations from the NDHSAA on 11B playoffs.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/13dRoRrQD2dQxgulgYZwWeS5_b9w9fRdCXlrwHcYaVCU/edit

-Top four teams in each region as determined by region record will qualify for the playoff
-Coaches vote will rank the four region champs and seed them #1-4

Are they reseeding after each round? I'm confused why they announced that they're seeding the Region champs at the conclusion of the regular season. Seems like the bracket is already set regardless of how the region champs will get seeded. If there isn't a reseed after the first round, this seems like much ado about nothing.

Right now I would assume it'll be Beulah, HCV, Kindred, and Velva in that order? But if say Beulah got beat this weekend, in theory HCV could jump them and be the "#1 seed" of the region champs. That doesn't change anything as far as playoff matchups, right? Or if HCV lost to Thompson this weekend, HCV is still a region champ, but Kindred would have an argument to jump them as a seeded region champ. This should be seeded 1-16 like an NCAA tournament Regional bracket if they're going to put any weight into seeding Region champs.

Any explanation would be appreciated.

First Round
R2 #4 @ R1 #1 Kindred
R1 #3 @ R2 #2

R1 #4 @ R2 #1 Hillsboro
R2 #3 @ R1 #2

R4 #4 @ R3 #1 Bishop Ryan
R3 #3 @ R4 #2

R3 #4 @ R4 #1 Beulah
R4 #3 @ R3 #2

These are the teams that are going to be seeded (Assuming they win their regions). The teams that are seeded #1 and #4 will be on the same half-bracket while the teams seeded #2 and #3 will be on the other Half-Bracket. So Each quarter of the bracket is basically already set based on where the teams finish in their region, however the quarters of the bracket could move around. My Best Guess is that the bracket looks something like this:

R3 #4 Nedrose @ R4 #1 Beulah (Beulah with the #1 overall seed)
R4 #3 Bowman @ R3 #2 Velva

R4 #4 Hazen @ R3 #1 Bishop Ryan (Bishop Ryan with the #4 Overall Seed)
R3 #3 Des Lacs/Burlington @ R4 #2 Shiloh Christian

R1 #4 Oakes @ R2 #1 Hillsboro (Hillsboro with the #3 Overall Seed)
R2 #3 Harvey @ R1 #2 Central Cass

R2 #4 Thompson @ R1 #1 Kindred (Kindred with the #2 overall seed)
R1 #3 Lisbon @ R2 #2 Langdon

Ranking 1-4 opens the door for a potential final of all east or all west…not the guaranteed east vs west that many state titles have been when in some cases the semifinal game was more likely the ‘title’

That’s how I see it though…this year will likely work out east v west in the final.

Region 4 still up for grabs…Velva/DLB playing for #2/#3 Region 3 seeds…Oakes/SC playing for playoff berth as well.

Wouldn't it make more sense to rank them all 1-16?

It would be fun...but the State would never do it.

Seems like ranking the region champs to determine where their pool gets placed in the bracket is a giant waste of everyone's time. You're right that the state would never do it, and that makes no sense. They have all these people voting and ranking teams all year, why not put that into practice. If Beaulah is the #1 team then they should play the #16 team, and so on. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the High School Activities board is making these decisions. It seems so obvious to do it the way basically every other playoff system is done. If not all 16, then rank the east side 1-8 and the west side 1-8.

Our State doesn't like to be the first to try anything...I'm actually shocked Shot Clocks came to ND before MN...because MN is always ahead of ND in change.

I'd be interested in an overall ranking...something that doesn't necessarily end in an east v west title...opens the door for east v east or west v west. Nothing more infuriating to me in not getting to see a semifinal matchup that is clearly the championship and then getting a blowout in the Title.

The votes during the year are coming from the media...who do not see every team play...actually I guarantee that there isn't a person out there that sees every team. And the QRF has flaws over a 8 or 9 game season because good teams get under-ranked because they just happen to play a poor non-conference team (look at LaMoure's ranking in 9-man: https://www.northdakota-scores.net/clas ... 4&class=33). The QRF is much better when 15+ games are played...which isn't football.

I think Hillsboro will be the number 2 and Kindred the Number 3.
I would like to see Beulah play either Kindred or HCV to get to State. They have not really played any of the top teams on this side of the state. Maybe HCV 1 Beulah 2 Kindred 3 and Bishop 4

Beulah still has to worry about Bowman County this week

IF Beulah wins or loses by 12 or less
Seeding will be Beulah, HCV, Kindred, Bishop Ryan

IF Bowman wins by 13 or more
Seeding will be HCV, Kindred, Bowman, Bishop Ryan

Crazier things have happened, but I just do not see HCV getting ranked ahead of Kindred when Kindred beat them head to head this year. I also don't see Beulah losing to Bowman County (By 12 or less) and still being the #1 overall seed. I think an undefeated Beulah is #1, but a 1-loss Beulah falls to #3.

I stand corrected.I mixed up the HCV vs. Kindred Result with the HCV vs. Central Cass result.

With that said, I do think that HCV will get the seed above Kindred, but I still think an unbeaten Beulah gets #1 seed above them both but if Beulah were to lose to Bowman and still win their region they would fall to the #3 seed behind them both.

Well with Beulah losing, my thought is HCV is #1, Kindred #2, and then SW region should probably be #3 and NW #4. Last two I don't know who wins the tie-breakers.

Coaches vote on the seeding but I feel it's safe to say HCV, Kindred, Bowman, Bishop Ryan

Playoff Matchups - and what I think the bracket will ultimately look like
Lisbon (5-4) @ Hillsboro-Central Valley (8-1) (#1)
Harvey-Wells County (7-2) @ Central Cass (8-1)

Hazen (5-4) @ Bishop Ryan (8-1) (#4)
Velva/Garrison (6-2) @ Beulah (8-1)

Thompson (5-4) @ Kindred (8-1) (#2)
Oakes (5-4) @ Langdon/Edmore/Munich (8-1)

Nedrose (5-3) @ Bowman County (8-1) (#3)
Shiloh Christian (7-2) @ Des Lacs-Burlington (8-1)

Lots of intrigue to me in the HWC/CC, Velva/Beulah & Shiloh/DLB matchups...Hazen may be able to pull the seeded upset as well IMO
