Will anyone challenge HCV or Carrington before the playoffs?

Carrington vs Langdon could be a decent game. It might be the only game that Carrington doesnt dominate. If Langdon keeps improving they might be able to play Carrington to a score or 2 but I will still take Carrington to win. I dont know how deep Carrington is so if they catch the injury bug or hits a team that plays out of their mind they aren't infallible. Kindred vs. Hillsboro is the only game that I think might be close for HCV but I dont forsee that being a game HCV loses. HCV seems deep enough to me to overcome the competition they face in the regular season. Barring injury I think both teams enter the playoffs undefeated.

Anyone have any thoughts on the early polls? I haven't seen or heard much about some of these top teams from the West. It surprises me that Oak Grove was still receiving votes this week after that game against Milnor-NS with other 2 and 0 teams still out there. I know those other 2-0 teams weren't very well thought of at the start of the season and it is early but they are still undefeated. Otherwise I didn't really think anything in the poll was too much of a surprise.

IMO Beulah and Bowman Cnty should be in the top 4 somewhere. Trinity should be receiving some votes soon. Bishop Ryan and Velva will round out top 2 in Region 3. Region 4, top 3 spots will be Beulah, Bowman Cnty and Trinity. Killdeer receiving votes??? I question this but they should take the 4 seed in region 4. Beulah is going to be the powerhouse again. Well coached, big and athletic. Oak Grove votes surprised me too. I think this year is Carringtons year to go to the big game. Their due.

I like that Langdon is in the top 5. They seem to pick up where they were last year and that might be surprising to some. The skill positions are filled with talent and honestly the line might be the best in the region. Granted they haven't played anyone dominate yet but the Carrington game seems intriguing. I know Carrington has a boatload of talent but Langdon looks like they're getting better and better each week.

I think Langdon is a good team but I think you might be jumping up a little early on the best line in the region thing. I also think that it might be reaching a little to say they pick up where they were last year. We will learn a lot in the Carrington game about both teams.

I'm Guessing it will go :

#1 Hillsboro/Central Valley
#2 Langdon Area Schools -Has played a tougher schedule so far then Velva has so that's why I have them jumping Velva in rankings.
#3 Velva
#4 Bowman County
#5 Bishop Ryan
RV Carrington and Kindred

I would agree this is how it should go but I would be surprised if Langdon jumped up to #2. I think that Velva will slide into the slot and maybe Langdon moves up a spot or two. As far as I'm concerned beating the number 2 team in the state at home should move you up to number 2 but I'm not convinced that is the way it will shake out. I would guess the rankings will go:

1. Hillsboro/CV
2. Velva
3. Langdon
4. Bowman
5. Bishop Ryan

Provided both teams take care of business on Friday, that Velva/Bishop Ryan matchup next Friday night is developing into a monster.

I think people are sleeping on Bowman a little bit. I understand that most people don't get to see many games out west, but Bowman is the real deal this year.

I don't know if I would say people are sleeping on Bowman County. I would say that the East teams in both 9 man and single A are almost always favored. Part of it is the games people have the opportunity to watch but part of it is also the consistent success the East has had the last 5 or so years (longer in 9 man). Unfairly I think the West is often viewed with a you need to prove it to us attitude. Although this is probably not the appropriate view to take it is easy to see why that is the case based on what has happened in the very recent past. The good news is that once playoffs begin none of that matter and whether you are ranked 1st or 5th in the media polls has no impact. Rankings, regions, which side of the state you are on, etc falls by the wayside and every team has the opportunity to prove who is best. You win the games on your schedule and you keep advancing. you lose and you're done.

I've noticed that attitude a lot on this board. Wasn't that long ago the West was on a 17 year winning streak in the State A championships... longer if you want to include the Class B 11-man division.

Felt like Carrington was the odds on favorite to be the best team in the state this year. Now they're just another good team in the state. What changed?

I don't see an "odds on favorite" of this entire group. Any one of those 7 teams in the final poll could in Fargo and winning the whole thing at this point. I'm not trying to be too cliché but it's appears evenly matched top to bottom. Carrington lost by 1 score. Velva was 1 yard short. Bowman took care of their schedule. Hillsboro is the defending champs.... It's very compelling top to bottom.

I'm even interested in seeing some of these 4 vs 1 results tomorrow.

I'm not talking about now. Before the season Carrington was the pick to win it all.
