He plays LB/DE and TB/SLOT/QB for Killdeer. He is a very good football player. Very physical and very rarely, if ever, comes off of the field.

Never let their team down with training violations.

Sounds like both are piling up the stats in their senior year. I would expect both to be Senior Athlete of the year for their respective regions based on their stellar high school careers.

I think Royce Verkuehlen will get Senior Athlete out of region 2.

I thought the same thing with Royce

Hankey will have about twice as many yards total offense as Verkuehlen. Rushing, passing and receiving. Yes he has receiving yards while playing QB. He will have way more tackles than Verkuehlen. Since this is a coach voted award I'd be very surprised if the same coaches that put Hankey on 1st team all-state as a sophomore and junior all of a sudden vote Verkuehlen as Senior of the year for the region.

Most importantly he has two state championships, I just think Royce will be in the discussion and have a legit chance to win it.

If Verkuehlen got the ball every play just like Hankey he would have the same amount of yards. Case Closed

Jackson Hankey spent 3 years biding his time being the blocking back for Caydn Hunter. Deserves every carry.

Larimore is a balanced team they have talent all around so of course Royce isn't going to get the ball everytime. Park River this year isn't talented all around they have a few key players. They relied on Hankey a lot this year. Hankey is also a quarterback so he gets the option to throw and run. Royce is a running back he doesn't get the chance to throw all he does is run.

Sounds like they both are very deserving. Often times, in this type of situation, past accolades play a factor. In such a case, it seems clear Hankey has the advantage. I saw Verkuehlen play and was impressed but he might be the 3rd best player on his team, this could also play a factor in coach voting.

My only issue with Verkuehlen getting player of the year is that I don't believe he is even the best player on that team. That team has multiple great players and in my opinion the Hofers are the most important players on that team. Royce is a great player and probably deserves to be up for player of the year but how do you give it to someone who might not be the best player on their team. Royce is dominate on offense but not on both sides of the ball the way the Hofers are (good on defense but not dominate the times I have watched him play). I know it is a mute point because they don't put up the stats of a Hankey or Royce but still think they are probably better players than Royce.

Another thing I look at is what would happen if you took that player off of their team. If you take Royce off of Larimore they still make the playoffs and probably still challenge for a one or two seed. You take Hankey off of Park River and they miss playoffs and probably are a two or three win team. The second part of this debate is how heavily do you weigh previous and team success. Hankey has the nod in both of those categories with two state championships and all state honors. On the other hand, senior year with both of those two being "the guys" on their teams; Royce has the better record, state rank, and won the head to head match up.

Fair or not I think the player that gets nominated from Larimore will have an advantage. Being on the best team in the state just won the region in 2016 will have a bigger impact than anything you just mentioned.

Larimore also had Alex Mutch who was a just as good of running back last year.

Not sure I agree with one years success overshadowing a better career. In my experience it tends to go the other way with the voting. Not for everyone and I'm not saying it should or shouldn't but usually the better career and 2 or 3 years of sustained success is more difficult to argue with than 1 great year. I would say Hankey has the advantage coming in (whether he should or not).

Couldn't agree more about Hofer (I think I only saw Caleb Hofer). For his size, he moves well and all around talented athlete. Verkuehlen is also very tough. Glad I don't have to make those decisions and vote.

I am an EEK fan (& admittedly bias) but I would certainly pick a few ( or all :D ) of those guys on my team.

When are the senior athletes named? Pretty sure it was voted on a week ago, at least in region 2.

Looked into this a little closer and maybe one of the Hofer's got nominated? They were both all state lineman their sophomore and junior years and Coach Triplett was a lineman back in his day too.

Are the Region 2 all region teams out Run? I have seen some stuff from other places but not region 2 yet. Was curious how that region shook out.
