Name the top five from the west and east. Thoughts?

I think region 2 is going to be very tough in the east with Rugby and Harvey joining region 2. Larimore is always strong and Park River returns almost everyone from their championship run. Region 2 will be in the Dakota bowl from the east. West I have no Idea but I'd have to go with Hazen at the Bowl for the west. This is preseason talk by the way. I just can't wait for it to start! :)

I have to agree that Region 2 has some outstanding teams returning this year. Region 1 I believe that Carrington will be the top team there. Harvey, Rugby, Larimore, and Park River will all be big and should have very good skilled players for the coming year. Langdon and Lakota-Edmore/DP will be weak sisters in this region fighting it out for fifth place. Langdon may wish they had gone to 9 man instead of opting up to 11 man before this season is done and I heard that Lakota-Edmore/DP wanted to go 9 man. I don't know much about the west but I assume past powers will be there again.

Region 2 will be good.

Rugby, on the other hand, will probably be lucky to get to the playoffs for a couple years. Losing key players like that is going to hurt, considering how impactful players like Heidlebaugh, Miller, Bernhardt, and Mundahl were.

I think Class A football in the Eastern half of the state could have some excellent defenses. Quite a few teams are returning key players in the trenches. Larimore should be very big, as usual, and though they lost some good skill players, the guys up front can more than make up for it. Those Hofer kids are massive. How Larimore's skill positions turn out is what will decide how they match up with teams like Carrington and PRFL. PRFL returns most of their linemen on both sides of the ball, along with all 4 kids who started at LB last year (and all 4 of them are very good), so I think PRFL be very good up front, as well. Rugby lost some key pieces but I have a hard time believing they won't be competitive. I don't know anything about Harvey, but of course they have a long football tradition so it's great to see them playing Eastern ball again. I wouldn't overlook Langdon just yet. They were young last year and have a pretty good quarterback, from what I understand. No idea about Lakota/Adams. They had a lot of kids out last year so they could definitely be competitive, as well. Region 2 should be very tough. Region 1 will no doubt field quite a few good teams as well. There will be plenty of good football.

I don't know anything about the Western half of the state but towns like Hazen and Killdeer will probably field good teams, as usual.

I would not overlook any team. Did anyone pick Park River to win last year?

Don't forget Bishop Ryan moved themselves into A. Supposedly A is a lot less physical than AA so Bishop Ryan may have an edge there just coming out of class AA. They are also very well coached so dont overlook them.

I think Carrington is going to be tough to beat in "A". Their skilled positions are phenomenal barring injury. If the line comes through, they should be fantastic. If the line doesn't show up, this region is a toss up.

I wouldn't say AA is more physical than A. There are a lot of AA/A matchups in the first week and I think the A teams win more of those games.

W-N-S laid the wood to the Minot High JV last night (36-18 or something like that). W-N-S was picked to finish 6th in the region in the first coaches poll. Gotta wonder if they were "snubbed" because they are making the jump from 9-Man to 11-Man. Similar to the assumption that AA is more physical than A? You never know until you see them play.

I would say that they know Ryan and not WNS. Velva plays them every year and the Minot paper covers them well. Everyone in the area knows that they made the semi's and have a lot of players back. They really do not know WNS. Yes they usually have good teams but for what they have back, not many would know.

So Rugby had a 3rd Q comeback and beat Ryan 55-27.

Sorry. You're right. They were WNS back when I played. Glenburn still had their own team then.

After being witness to the second half meltdown in Rugby I question if they do know Ryan!
