I know it has been brought up many times about deserving people being left of all-state teams but there are a couple of things I find amusing regarding the class A all-state team this year.

Lisbon - loses one game all year to the eventual state champions in the semi-final and gets 2 players on the
team
Bowman County - Loses to Oakes (whom Lisbon beat) and also loses in the semi-final......They get 6 players
on the team (more than the undefeated state champions)
Minot Ryan - How did they ever lose a game with 7 all-state players?

Not saying that any of the players who made the team were not deserving but the logic of some of this is lost on me.

Agree. Nearly 50 guys make all state ? Seems like a lot.

I complain about this a lot, but why do 3 QBs make first team all state? Only one gets to start. Yet you start 5 offensive linemen and only 4 make it?

You're right though 50 is too many. That's like 1.6 per team

I don’t think it can be argued that 50 all state players is way to many.

Flip, I do think that you are off complaining that their should only be one qb, since each team only starts one qb. Here is my rational...

I would guess roughly 1/2 of teams start their best player at qb. How often would a teams’ starting qb not be on the field if they had a better qb move to town? QB’s are different than OL men in that qb’s don’t have a counterpart on defense. Top qb’s play defensive line, line backer, and defensive back when playing defense. When looking at all state OL men, how diverse are they? They tend to be bigger kids and if they don’t make all state on offense, they do get all state on defense. Personally I kind of lump OL and DL together. I also think there is something to the fact that there are more all state caliber athletes that are smaller than those that have a traditional offensive lineman’s’ size. I have also seen kids receive all state OL that I would never play over kids (in the 180-200lbs range) that didn’t receive the honor. I looked back 5 years. Here are the first team all state numbers I found.
2019- 3 qbs- 4 OL- 3 dL
2018- 2 qbs - 6 OL- 5 dL
2017- 1 qb- 5 OL- 5 dL
2016- 3 qbs- 4 OL- 3 dL
2015- 4 qbs- 4 OL- 4 dL

Off the sport but same subject line...Should All-State 1st Team Basketball be set to 2 G, 2 F & 1 C or should it just be the best 5 players. Same arguing point on why 3 QBs make it, IMO

I would agree Run. 5 best players in basketball and bring on the qbs in football. Whatever the year bears.
