they have an outside chance of not loosing any games. That would be awesome. I dont believe that Grafton has ever won a state championship in football. Atleast not recently.

There is a greater chance that they don't LOSE any games.

Grafton will be a decent team, but they have a serious problem. They lack any sort of depth whatsoever on the inside line positions. Injuries will play a key. If their front five don't stay healthy, they are going to have trouble.

I agree, most teams will not be able to match up with Grafton's skill set so they will be blitzing the ever living crap out of Hanson. Plus I would imagine teams will try and get physical on offense against them, trying to keep the ball way from their dangerous offense, wich will take it's toll on Grafton's thin depth on the line.

I posted this on a different thread. I have first hand knowledge of these kids. I cant promise that the O and D lines will be a powerhouse but i can tell you that they will be vastly superior to the last two years lines. Bigger, Stronger, Deeper and focused. JMHO Go Spoilers!

i am a big Grafton fan so i will apologize in advance if come across too exited. Grafton has been building on this team for the 3rd year running. 7 or 8 of these kids have been starting on both sides of the ball as sophmores and now are seniors. They have improved year after year and now it is the seniors time to shine. Hanson is a great QB and we have a very good back up as well in Demers. Jiskra, lerclerc, Suda, Demers, Burns are all 3rd year starters at the other "skilled positions" RB, WR as well as D backs and line backers on defense. Their skill position players will be competative with any team. The last 2 years the trenches have been the achiles heal for Grafton. The lack of numbers, size, and a few key injuries have cause the O and D lines to struggle even though they play with huge hearts and intesity. the fact that 3 or 4 of these linemen have matured and bulked up, along with the addition of a few new kids i believe will drastically impove our line on both sidse of the ball. line averages: 2009/180lbs/no depth---2010/200lbs/no depth----2011/220lbs/2 or 3 skilled guys to fill in. The line will make or break Grafton's season this year. I have a good feeling they will "MAKE" it a great year for Grafton football. go spoilers!

I think we are all in agreement that at the skilled positions, Grafton is probably as good and as deep as anybody. But, thewanderer, I just don't see where you can say that on the line they are any better off than before. You are probably more familiar with the team than I am, so who do you put at the starting five on line and who can back them up? Same as last year minus Dravland? I heard they maybe picked up a decent line kid from St Thomas. Is that true?

First off, an assessment from last year. We did lose Dravland. a starter on both sides of the ball. The last 3 or 4 games our two biggest lineman - Surita(all region) and Salazar were out with season ending injuries. Martinson our 2 year starting center was out of the devils lake play off game with the flu. So in Grafton’s loss to DL, 3 of the starting O line were not playing and their back ups were young green horns. last year at the end of the season we had 19 to 20 kids total. Fast forward to this year: A total of 46 kids out for football! Summer weight program went from a dozen to 3 dozen kids lifting. I am not going to list who i think will start at each position. One reason for that this year, we actually have some battles for starting spots! i will list the kids I think will have an impact on the lines. Remember that Grafton has a 4 man defensive front and a 5 man offensive line set.

1 Surita - all region even tho he missed 3 games in 2010 255lbs SENIOR leader DT OT
2 Martinson - 3 year starter at Center 195lbs Good skill set, Good snapper for shot gun offense. SENIOR leader
3 Zach Peterson - 6;2" 205lbs, strongest kid on the team, very focused DE, OT
4 Joel Galvan - 6' 190lbs, DE O? Tough kid, Just finished 3rd in the nation at Jr Olumpic boxing trials @176lb
5 Jamie Villareal – 5’11” 230lbs – good athlete – all state baseball player OG DT
6 Jeremy Talmantes - 6'2" 260lbs – very athletic – finished in top 5 at state as a heavyweight wrestler St Thomas import OG DT
7 Surgio Quiano (spelling?) – 6’2” 250lbs, big athletic kid – St Thomas import OG DT
### plus a few other kids that will contribute to the depth

Once again, The O and D lines in Grafton will be vastly better than the injury plagued, little depth, smaller line that finished the end of the season last year. No comparison. Kids will still need to stay healthy as some will play on both sides of the ball. JMHO

Nice update, wanderer. Question, did Galvan play last year? I don't remember him from the roster. And Talamantes must be the kid I heard about from ST. Like I said, I think the starters on the line will do fine, but I'm still a little worried about depth. Time will tell. Go Spoilers.

Galvan missed the first half of the season last year but contibuted after he got back. i agree that avoiding injury will be key as with any team. My posts mainly focus on a comparison of the O/D lines the last few years as opposed to this season. All of the "skilled position" kids are returning as well. Tho they wont be as improved as i believe the line will be, remember that they are mostly seniors and a year older and stronger as well. JMHO Good luck to the spoilers!!!!!! :D
P.S. the Pigskin Preview has Jake Hanson listed at 5'11"/180lbs, he is 6'/195lbs this season. FYI

Big opener for the spoilers tonight. Park River will give them a good game. Rivalry is there. Some kids from PR play hockey with the spoilers so they know each other well. Oposing game plans as PR likes to pound it out on the ground and Grafton likes to air it out. We might see a little more run game from the spoilers but it s pretty obvious when you run a shot gun with 4 recievers every play that the balls will be sailing. JMHO Go Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really, wanderer, you think this one will be close? If Grafton is going to compete for the East Region they should be able to beat PR-FL like a rented mule. I say it's 20 plus points at half time.

Grafton will win big. question is how big. i was commenting on the fact that i think PR wont be a push over game. Both teams return most of their from last season. Last year Grafton won 20-6 @ home. My prediction is Grafton by 14.

runninganylizer, i am from Grafton, i am not an avid wrestiling fan. i didnt follow the wrestling team closely. i was told by a few sources that he finished top 5. i was exited to hear that as i am a football fan and knew that wrestlers usually make good football players due to the nature of the two sports. i did no research as i felt no need to doubt my sources. i apogize if i have some how offended you. Honest mistakes can happen. maybe in the future you could consider that a possablity before concluding some one is an out right lier. JMHO

Grafton has a lot of work to do on the offensive line if they are going to contend. It doesn't do any good to send 5 recievers out if your quarterback is on his back staring at the lights. It's a good thing they have Rugby next week. They will need a couple good weeks of practice and an easier game if they are going to be ready for Shanley.

agreed. penalties killed Graftons momentum many times. 3 TDs affected by penalties. Part of the game as a hold on a play often does contribute to the offensive TD so take it with a grain of salt. Grafton has some things they need to work on. Zack Suda had a good game at reciever/DB, Zach Pederson also had a big game on the O/D line. JMHO.

spoilers respond to a slow start game against Park River with a good showing against Rugby. A 30 point second quarter topped of a 38 point first half of both good offense and defensive playmaking. 5 interceptions (2 returned for TDs) as well as a stingy D-line were defensive highlights. Run/pass on offense out of the shotgun/spread was fun to watch. The starters didnt play the second half. The panthers managed to score a touchdown vs the second line-up, then the game was called due to lighning early in the 4th quarter. Overall a good confidence builder for Grafton as the have Shanley and Lisbon at home the next two weeks. We will find out if Grafton is for real as a state contender after these two games. i am hoping for two resounding wins. we will see! Go spoilers! JMHO
