Defense

Which team seems to have the best defense in AA football this year? Who are the key players for the teams? :)

My opinion only, Grafton has a darn decent base for defense, big strong kids and they are pretty dang fast to the ball.

in my opion valley city's defense is the best in state ... berg and andel on the d-line gives opposing teams qb nightmares

I agree with both Grafton and VC having great defenses, I would say that Devils Lake's should be thrown in top three along with them.

Definately have to agree with those 3 teams, vc has team speed all around from the line to the DB's and both DL and grafton have some bigboys up front

Oak Grove and Bottineau have fairly decent defenses, bottineau can take care of the pass game pretty well and they are decent at slowing the run, big boys on the d-line help out a lot

Id say botno has to have the best defense they are solid all the way around

Anyone noticing that no one is mentioning a defense from Region II (western division)?

Same reason the west teams won't get out of the first round. They don't play defense!

I guarantee you both Hazen and Watford City take care of the 3 and 4 seed out of the east in the first round!

Do you want to expand a little more on why the west 1 and 2 will win. besides them playing the 3 and 4 out of the east.
a great player can win a game but a TEAM can win EVERY game.

People forget, Bottineau was down I think 14 to 7 in the 4th quarter against Hazen earlier this year and they were threatening to score....I know Hazen scored 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter, one on an interception return. Obviously, Hazen made the plays to win the game and I'm not at all saying Bottineau should have won....but look out, Bottineau is playing well now and this will be a close game. I'd have to give Hazen the edge in experience and home field.

just a little stat
Since, bottineau played VC and lost 22-0 they have only given up 2 touchdowns and a total of 13 points shutting out carrington and rugby, A touchdown off a block punt by OG in the first quarter when it was soaking wet, and a TD off a pretty good drive by Graton, other then that they've played great.

Hazen also has the highest scoring offence in AA football this year, Bottineau may have a good defence but their offence wont be able to keep up.

So.. from what i have gathered from all your east/west bias opinions is that the west can score and the east can play defense. Should be some good games if thats the case. But to be honest no one really knows because the east and west have not played each other since week 2. That said its kinda hard to compare the difference between the two divisions. I have seen games on both sides of the state and from what i have seen there will be no guaranteed wins for anyone. Every team better come ready to play on both sides of the ball or they will be watching the rest of the playoffs from the sideline.
