Would be different, for a change huh? I'm an eastern guy and would love to see a different team in it.

Can anyone tell me the last time a parochial school WAS NOT in the AA final??

All 4 of the teams in the semi's should be playing in AAA. It is ridiculous that they play against Class B towns.

Are you serious? They may be larger than some of the schools but look at the difference in kids they would be up against in AAA, versus their difference in AA.

Don't really know that the kids r better its that them four schools can afford a lot more coaches and that does make a difference. If 2a is for class b schools which is in my book rural north Dakota then by no means should they be playin on artificial turf. Class b can't afford that

AA was started for small A/large B schools. That's what three of these schools are. Bishop Ryan actually plays a level higher than their student numbers dictate they have to play. Give them credit. They're the four best teams in AA. If you don't like that, then beat them.

Enrollment Numbers
Low End Class AAA
Williston 477
Jamestown 407
Dickinson 401
Devils Lake 290

Class AA Numbers
Wahpeton 195
TMCHS 173
Valley City 161
Fargo Shanley 161
St. Mary's 159
Griggs/Barnes County 142
Grafton 136
Beulah 127
Watford City 127
Central Cass 124
Kindred 122
Dickinson Trinity 114
Stanley-Powers Lake 113
Maple Valley-Enderlin 112
Lisbon 111
Bishop Ryan 88

High End Class A - higher than lowest Class AA
Hillsboro-Central Valley 107
Berthold-Our Redeemer's 105
Des Lacs-Burlington 102
Hazen 100
Southern McLean 100
Williams County 97
Larimore 96
Bottineau 94
Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm 90
May-Port-CG 89
Langdon 89
Midway-Minto 89
Carrington 88

Notice how Class AA's highest number is NO where near the lowest in Class AAA.

Also to note enrollment numbers will not dictate if you can make the postseason or not...numbers help but its coaching, hard work, dedication and execution that gets teams this far.

Four in the top eight made it, four in the bottom eight made it. #1, #4, #5, #8, in the top #9, #11, #15, #16 in the bottom. Yes I cheer against them because they do have about twice as many coaches and at times they act the way you would hope teams wouldn't act. But this does not mean they should be they should be in another class.

So why do they compete in class a in other sport. A lot of the same kids and probably a lot of the same coaches

And....in the case of Shanley and St. Mary's (don't know off top of mind of other schools), their schools also have Fall soccer, tennis and cross country teams. so - even thought the enrollment might be a little higher than others, they still have to compete internally for talent. Just another point to consider.

I disagree with your statement and say these schools belong in the 2a.

You only need four coaches to run 2A football team. When it comes to coaching you can't just run iso right and iso left and hope to make far in the play offs. Eventually the competition gets better and better and you must do something different to trick the opposing defense. I'm willing to bet the losing 2a play off teams last week would still lose in the 1A play offs. Carrington made the play off team in 2a for last 4 years. Dropped to 1a and lost right away in the play offs.

So if u disagree with my statement and say you only need four coaches to run a 2A team than why does some of these teams have twelve to sixteen coaches

I don't see anyone with 12-16 coaches.

Highest number of coaches
Fargo Shanley - 7
Valley City - 7
Wahpeton - 7
Dickinson Trinity - 6
Watford City - 6
Kindred - 6

Average number of coaches when researching this for AA teams is 5 coaches...so its really not that big of a difference in coaches (lowest found was 3).

Shanley only has 7 coaches for Varsity/JV...they may have two JH coaches that are there during games. But I do know that they only have 7. What is your gripe??

I have no horse in this race being a lowly single A team, but I feel the need to weigh in, COME ON MAN. Its not like these coaches are getting paid squat to be there so don't make it about money. I would be willing to bet that the highest paid high school coach (all classes from West Fargo to TGU) doesn't make enough money coaching if you added all the hours of film study, practice, games, travel, camps, fundraising, ect. ect. ect that any one of us would take the job as a source of income. That's a crap call. Most of them have coaching as a added stipened to their teaching contract in hope of being able to continue teaching because lets face it teachers are severely underpaid. They are crafting the future of our youth?? And as a former Class A player back when that was the highest class in the 80's-90's I can tell you that a lot of those schools get student coaches or trainers to help out. They are not paid. They are doing it to further their education. And they are not there year in and year out. So lets face it the system is flawed, but right now its the best we have. Its no different than the Class A schools with over 100 kids facing Velva at 45. Its not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog. The kids play the game. Let them play. I bet they are a lot less concerned with it than us "adults" are. Just sayin'....
