I don't know how a team that didn't have Travis Kraft had more talent then a team with him.

I'd have to say May-Port from what I remember as a little kid.

The 1995 team did make it to state, but they lost to Carrington (the eventual champs) in the semifinals. MPCG had the lead, but they elected to go four corners with half of the fourth quarter remaining. Carrington got a few steals and ended up winning the game.

Too bad they didn't have a shot clock. If they continued to play the end of the game like they did the first 7/8. They probably would have won.

the only teams that come close to the may-port teams are the beaulah teams that always gave them a good battle. also i remember langdon having a good team in 96 or 97 i think

What about the 98 Leeds team that beat MPCG by 27 in the state semifinals after MPCG had beat Beulah the night before?

the 98 leeds team was good, but i dont think they were nearly at the level of the 96, 97 mp beulah teams

nobody was on the same level as the 96 97 MPCG teams...I would put the leeds team as the 3rd best team of the 90's

I'm not sure I agree Schwab...didn't the 98 Leeds team lose the state title game to Standing Rock?? I'm not sure the 98 Leeds team was the best Leeds team of the decade...the 92 team started 3 guys that played in college (Haagenson, Engstrom, Hochstetler), along with Eric Haagenson, who was pretty darn good, and Troy Halvorson, who was recruited to play football in college....they brought Jeremy Wolf off the bench who was one of the better players around in 1994, along with a couple other athletic kids...They lost in the state championship to Munich, who in my opinion may have been the 2nd best team in North Dakota during the decade (Marty MCDonald, MR. BB/college baseball stud, Justin Schommer-basketball at UND-Williston, Jon Wirth-all conference basketball at Williston/and Dickinson, Chris Wirth-basketball at UND-LR, Jack Demaine-hall of fame coach)....of course, arguments can be made for nearly any of the state champions of the decade!

I agree, too. The 98 and even the 99 Leeds teams were not as great as the 92 or even maybe the 91 Leeds teams. The 1992 was by far the most talented. I was just making an argument to the guy who said the only teams that compared to MPCG during the 90's was Beulah. I'd say the MPCG team of 97 was the most talented of the 90's, followed by 92 Munich, 92 Leeds, 91/92 Watford City, then possibly the 94 Bishop Ryan team to round out the top 5. Arguments could be made for the 94 Tolna, 95 Carrington, 95 Grenora, and the 98/99 Leeds teams as well. These are just the first teams that come to my mind in the 90's, I know there's more....

I see Schwab....guess I just consider the 96/97 MPCG team as the same because they didn't lose much (if anyone) from their 96 season. I'm honored that you think the 98 Leeds team is basically the 2nd best team of the 90s tho. I'm not going to argue against you for that one!!

If memory serves me right...they lost jeremy macekovik (i know i spelled that wrong haha) and replaced him in the starting line up with Kraft.

after 96, they lost jeremy macjekovic (not even close to the right spelling), darrin klabo, and brian halvorson. jeremy, darrin, and brian were HUGE losses for that team. so for them to come back the next year with a team that i think was even better... i think the schwab is right when he list it the way he does 1st and 2nd, but i still think that there were better teams than the 98 leeds team. i would pick the 95 grenora team by far better than leeds. and after grenora i would pick carrington, which is the team grenora lost to, but shouldnt have.

Do you guys remember the 1995 legion tournament? I'm not sure the best team came out on top seeing as how Velva got Thompson twice, but that a great group of teams that year including Grafton. That is one tournament I will always remember. Here is a link to ND Legion Baseball if you need more info:

Its sad to see the May-Port teams today and look back at 15-20 years ago when they were so dominant.
