Anyone have a list of wins for coaches and state tourney appearances?? I know Eddie Beyer is still at the top for wins, but I was wondering if anyone is closing in on him. Also, what coach has the most state tourney appearances? Anyone know?

Perhaps the teaching part of Del is all relative to whom you had before he came into your classroom. Del came into my classroom when I was a junior and prior to that we had teachers who were only there to coach and we didn't learn a thing.

I learned a great deal from Del in the classroom and on the BB court. He was also a "new"girls coach to a team that had only experienced a coach with volleyball knowledge. He came onto the court and taught us girls to play with confidence even though we weren't very talented. I will agree with old lineman that Del Kessler was an effective coach and a very effective teacher.

I can name 7 guys that are hard to argue against.
1) Ed Beyer-Hillsoro
2) Bob Hunskor-Newburg
3) Ron Carlson-Minnewauken
4) Dan Carr-Linton
5) Dave Nelson-MPCG
6) Greg Grinnstiener-Dickinson Trinity
7) Jack Demaine-Munich
Other guys that are quality coaches: Nate Monson-Carringon, Mike Monson-Midkota, Jon Bertsch-Wells County (no longer coaching). Rick Smith-FW, Charlie Jordan-Langdon (retired), Steve Carnell-Oak Grove, Keith Snortland-Warwick.

I'd love to have my kid play for any of these guys.

I agree with all ofthe names mentioned. True icons in the coaching world in ND. One other name I'd like to mention is Jerry Perdaems from South Heart. Jerry was a phenomenal coach in all his years in South Heart. He is a guy that just coached and got the most out of his players. In a close game, you knew you had a chance because he would just outcoach his opposition.

I couldn't have said it better myself. He also was a true sportsman. Confident but not cocky......he had his team's respect as well as that of other coaches and players.

Steve Carnal retired this spring with 559 career wins!!

Well most schools don't have the budget to go out and get players like they do. But in all reality they are getting the job done year after year. Grinnsteiner is probably the most successful coach in the last 15 years. Dwyer keeps getting his team to state.

What makes you think that private schools have a budget to go out and get players?

Unquestionably Fast Eddie Beyer.
Besides characteristics that others have posted, getting the most out of questionable talent, and the fact that his teams ALWAYS believed they would win stand out to me. They didn't think they'd win, they truly believed in their hearts that they would win!! That's hard to accomplish year after year. Athletes come and go in cycles in small schools. Programs that have the history that Ed's has are a reflection of their coach.

It would be hard to argue a better coach in ND than Jerry Meyer. In 3 years at Kenmere (Class B), he won 2 State Championships and 1 runner up, then in class A he won 4 ND titles, runner up 5 times and coached in the ND state tournament 18 times (50% of the time he coached in the title game). If that wasn't enough, he then went on to coach the Jamestown Jimmies to a national tournament birth. Go find a coach that has had a better run at 3 different levels in the State of North Dakota.

Oh, just in case you forgot, there are a few coaches from the Class A ranks that you missed.

NDSportsFan wrote: Alright former players, heres a place to brag about your coachers, present and mostly past.  Some great names in BB history, who were some of the best, Beyer, Hunskor, Jerry Meyer?

Has there EVER been a coach in ND to coach in the state tourament 18 out of 22 years, win 4 titles, runner up 5 times (50% of the time he coached in the Championship game), coach of the year in Class A, win 2 tiles in Class B and a runner up in 3 years other than Jerry Meyer? If so, could someone please make a arguement for them? GOOD LUCK!
