The 05' Velva Legion team did beat Thompson twice at state. Between Thompson, Grafton and Velva, it made for a dandy of a state legion tournament lin '05. All of the teams were pretty equally talented and it came down to who just played well.

Couple teams that come to mind are Minot Ryan the late 90's and the 02' or 03' Cavalier team.

what about the hope-page/hope-finley hs and legion teams from 03-04 (i think). the hs team lost 1 game all year in the state semis and the legion team went back to back.

When you talk high school baseball some teams really stand out.

Munich with Marty Mcdonald and company in the early 90's they were loaded.

Tolna, Scott Hanson and co. 1994 State highschool champs and deep into the Legion State tourny.

Thompson

Velva

Hope-Page

all great power house baseball teams.

I'm not sure how they've done lately, but I think when taking into consideration the last 10 years, Minot Ryan should be added to the list. In the late 90s and early 00s they were pretty dominant.

Well we've got some teams that have been named from the last decade:

Thompson
Cavalier
Velva
Hope Page
Minot Ryan

And any team worthy that I didn't mention, how would ya rank them in the last decade for best team?

Also think if ya wanna predict who is gonna be best in ten years to start a new topic, its pretty much a crap shoot.

1997 Enderlin
1998 Minot Ryan
1999 Thompson
2000 Minot Ryan
2001 Minot Ryan
2002 Cavalier
2003 Cavalier
2004 Cavalier
2005 Thompson
2006 Steele-Dawson

Just thought I'd post the high school state champions in the last 10 years. I don't know the best way to compare them with each other, but I know Minot Ryan and I think Cavalier had some teams that breezed through the state tournament.

As for legion, I couldn't find the winners over the past 10 years, but I think I would go with 2005 Velva as the best team, just because (if I heard correctly) they did better than any ND class B team ever at the midwest regional tournament. I'm not sure if that's a good measuring stick or not, but I didn't have much else to go on.

I would have to say that the Bishop Ryan teams from 2000 and 2001 would have to be way up there. They had solid pitching, and they were a good all around hitting team.

Nobody has mentioned Langdon's Legion team last year. They got all the way to the Regional's in Wisconsin. They were couple wins away from going to the nationals if i remeber right. They had a good team with the whole Langdon high school team, plus Contreas and Carpenter playing with them. I expect them to be good next year too. Also, not enough is said about how good cavalier was when they won three state titles in a row. That isn't easy, especially in baseball.

Every team that wins the state championship has the option to go to the regional, so that doesn't really set them apart from the other state champs. There is no class B legion national tournament.

I don't believe they were only a couple wins away. Weren't they only playing for two days?

According to the Legion baseball thread, they won 1 game and then lost 2 in a row. I don't know how many teams were in the tournament, but it would seem like they were quite a ways from winning it.

I was on the Velva team that went. We lost our first one but then won 3 in a row and then lost by one to the team that won. We would've had to win 6 in a row to take it.

That would be Marty McDonald and Justin Fletchock (who played with the Redhawks).

They were one game away from winning the Class A title that year losing to I believe Fargo who had to come back through the losers bracket.

2000 Midway-Minto Legion. Finished 39-7 and ended the season with a 15 game win streak. The runner up at state that year (Munich) was in the same region. Five of their losses during the year were in the second game of a double header. They were so deep with talent, the 2001 Region 2 senior of the year hit 6th in the order and even with an 8-0 record on the mound never threw one pitch in the District, Region, or State Tournament. In a District featuring Grafton and Cavalier they only allowed 2 runs in four games. Unfortuantely there was no Midwest Region at the time for them to participate in.

North Dakota was left out of the Midwest Region for something like five years.  That 2000 season was one of those years.

From 1997-2003. A town we will not name caused problems while they were there in 1996. So because of one bad situation all the other towns had to suffer.

Grrrrr. I wish my memory was good enough to remember who won state in 1996.

I think that Hatton won in 1996, but they didn't go to the Midwest Regional.  That team was stacked by the way.  They had one lefty that threw it 92 and other that threw about 85 and a couple of righties that threw it over 82.  Cory Pladson hit something like 30 homeruns that summer and drove in 80 runs while Randy Cranston hit another 20 bombs.  That team may have been from 1997, I guess.  I just can't remember.  Why aren't those guys getting any love?  They would have killed the Thompson team from 2005.  Do you honestly think that Zach Kvidt could even get the bat around on a 92 MPH pitch?
