2016-17 predictions

Postby athlete_17 » Wed Nov 02, 2016 4:23 pm

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on the upcoming hockey season. It should be an interesting year as most teams in the east graduated really heavy while a few graduated hardly any.

GF runaway. See how Minot grows thru the season. Too bad GF ,a few others, lose those talented Sophs to juniors . But others move to GF from Fgo/WFgo for better coaching. The only benefit to that is that several teams that should be playing JR Gold (Grafton) can now win a game. Maybe. there needs to be 2 tier ND HS Hockey. A huge disparity in talent between top and bottom. It would be even worse if all the GF players stayed on in HS. Wake up NDHSAA grow ND HS Hockey

1. GF central- second best team in state last year and only team that could evenly play with RR. Only lost a couple seniors.
2. Red river- it's going to be between these two teams. they did lose a lot of seniors but they also went undefeated last year.
3. Davies- should have some pretty good talent along with the new coach from grafton
4. Devils lake- they didn't really graduate anyone last season
5. West Fargo-lost a TON of seniors and unfortunately, those seniors were the back bone of that team. Still should be ok just due to the numbers they always have.
6. South- Had one line last year and 2/3 of that line is gone.
7. North- still a very young team with a pretty decent junior class.
8. GPR- I love grafton and their hockey, but I just don't think they have the talent or numbers this year. They lost a lot of seniors last year and like WF, those seniors were the team.

Move Grafton to JR Gold? GPR most recently finished 2nd in the East during the 2013-14 season, but missed state. Grafton (with / without Park River) has been to state 47 times, won 5 state titles, and has been runner up several times (most recently 2011, 12, and 13). The program has accomplished this while being FAR smaller than the majority of schools. Move GPR to Jr Gold and it would destroy hockey in the smaller towns like Langdon, Mayville, and others.

BTW, the disparity in talent isn't a recent issue. It's been a problem for decades.

Besides the grand forks teams grafton has been probably the most successful hockey program in ND. There is no reason that they should be moved down to JR gold.
