Wild Rice Conference Outdoor Predictions

Postby Run4Fun2009 » Sun May 01, 2011 4:32 pm

Anyone have any thoughts on the WRC on Thursday @ Concordia College?

Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood swept the titles at the Indoor meet.

My opinion is that Sargent County's (North Sargent-Sargent Central) boys will win over MWL, Kindred and Central Cass. SC should have won the indoor meet but were missing some athletes due to a school trip. Oak Grove will put up a respectable day because they will finally be at full strength (numbers-wise).

Girls title - MWL seems like the logical choice but Kindred has plenty of girls to use to maximize their full point potential...and make it close.

My thoughts below:

Each event seems to have their own interesting battles.

BOYS
100 - Jalen Ham (CC) and Philip Enderson (SC)
200 - Jalen Ham (CC), Philip Enderson (SC), Kelly Illies (MWL) and Thad Bergh (SC)
400 - Thad Bergh (SC), Dalton Herding (Hankinson) and Jalen Ham (CC).
800 - The 800 event has been down this year across the state...so other than Flick of CC...this event is WIDE open for points...plenty of possible runners could place.
1600 - Flick (CC), Heitkamp (Kindred) and Bjertness (OG)
3200 - Race was close at the indoor meet...should be close again unless Flick (CC) does this instead of the 800.
4x100 Relay - Sargent County (state qualifiers...no one has touched them yet)
4x200 Relay - Sargent County (see comment above)
4x400 Relay - Always the favorite race of the meet...this one could be the deciding factor in the team title...CC is usually strong, MWL always finds a good squad, SC can be tough as well...dark horse (Kindred).
4x800 Relay - Top two teams in the conference and region so far are OG and CC...look for a good battle if OG runs their top squad.
110 Hurdles - Illies brothers of MWL (1&2)
300 Hurdles - see 110 Hurdles
High Jump - Hansana (SC) and J. Illies (MWL) are the front runners
Long Jump - If Enderson does the LJ he will win...if NOT then its an open event (most likely winner would be Heyen of Richland).
Triple Jump - Again depends on placing of athletes in open events...potential winner would be K. Illies of MWL...if he doesn't compete then look for Bergh (SC) or Buntrock (CC) to come away with the event.
Pole Vault - Winner will probably be one of the two OG vaulters...Gossett has qualified and Battles has cleared 10 feet...no one else in the conference has cleared that height.
Shot Put - Plankers (Kindred) and Meyer (MWL) are heads and tails better then the rest of the field.
Discus - Meyer (MWL) should win this event (no contest).
Javelin - Plankers (Kindred) should win this event (no contest).

GIRLS
100 - Grommesh and Slemmons of CC (one of them should be the winner)
200 - Grommesh (CC) or Schmit (Kindred) are the favorites.
400 - Martinez (Kindred) and Schmit (Kindred) - both are state qualifiers...they'll battle for the win.
800 - This should be a fun race...there are three girls capable of breaking 2:32 that will be in this race...Sakry (MWL), Schlecht (SC) and Martinez (Kindred).
1600 - The question here is: does Sakry run the mile? If so, she wins...if NOT Gossett (OG) should be the winner...other possible winner Johnson (SC).
3200 - Three girl race: Jacobs (OG), Johnson (SC) and Oster (MWL)...Plecity (Kindred) is the dark horse.
4x100 Relay - Central Cass
4x200 Relay - Kindred and Central Cass...Kindred is a state qualifier...CC has a tough group of sprinters.
4x400 Relay - Kindred (HANDS DOWN the best in the region...let alone the conference).
4x800 Relay - Interesting race...Kindred, MWL, SC and even OG have chances to win. OG only if they run it.
100 Hurdles - Ptacnik (SC)
300 Hurdles - Wettstein (MWL)
High Jump - Braaten (MWL) and Schmit (Kindred) will do battle.
Long Jump - Heitkamp (Kindred) - most impressive jumper in conference
Triple Jump - Heitkamp (Kindred) and Mauch (MWL)...Heitkamp should win though.
Pole Vault - Wittenburg (MWL), Dixon (OG) and Bergstrom (OG)...tallest height has been 7' 6"...so its wide open.
Shot Put - Olivia Johnson (Richland)
Discus - Halverson (MWL)
Javelin - Olivia Johnson (Richland)

Unfortunately, there is both a softball and baseball game scheduled today, so Central Cass will not have their full team.

I don't think it would have mattered...results will be posted in the Class B meet thread.
