Does anyone think that the eastern half of the State will be at a disadvantage if this impending flood occurs this spring.

IMO its going to cut down the number of outdoor meets...so therefore there will be less chances to qualify for state.

Did they have the same problem in 09?

No because the flood occurred during the indoor season (early to mid-March). This year's flood looks to be an April flood similar to the 1997 flood.

Below is a link to show the weekly chances of the impending flood in Fargo:

I am sure it will have some effect. Like you said there will be less meets to qualify in, but that may just push people to work harder in the meets that do happen!

I agree but that won't make up for the possible missed meets

True. I think it should be fine. I don't see any meets getting canceled for flooding. In '09 there wasn't really any canceled for flooding, it was just all around bad weather. And there will always be meets to go to, just have to travel.

That's because in 2009 it happened during the indoor season...

I think it should be fine, maybe a few meets get cancelled but I have a good feeling about the melt. The flood won't be as bad and towns are more efficient at stopping floods from the 2009 flood

Indoor season? indoor season in ND high school track is 2 weeks long. it wasn't a 2 week flood, it had repercussions that lasted all summer. The only meets i can think of from 09 that were canceled from flooding were indoor meets because the facility was being used to house people who were evacuated from their homes. I didn't hear of any outdoor tracks that were made completely unusable because of the flood.

Indoor season is much longer than 2 weeks. In 2009 there basickly was no indoor season. I was stranded in my house for several days, we were sand bagging for atleast a week.

However, because the city is so much more prepared now than they were in 2009, i don't think there should be a problem with meets getting cancelled.

I think the very north eastern part of the state will have a tough time. Sure the majority of the meets won't be cancelled but some teams have a hard time getting there working around all the water.
