Who do you know that has been great, and risen above everyone else? Is there anyone that compares greatly to Laura Roesler? In my opinion, she is about the best ND has ever had.

I don't know if he could be considered the best ever for Class B boys - but maybe top 10 or so. Stevie Keller from Harvey - won 4 championships his senior year - not sure about before that though. Thing that got me with him however is he qualified in 9 events his senior year - and was the top qualifier in the state in 6 of them I believe. Now head Track Coach at NDSU.

I don't remember the particulars, but Kinsey Coles from Hillsboro, then NDSU was awesome! I know she was running in some Olympic trials a couple years back.

weston leutz's father was tom leutz who competed for the olympics. I believe he missed the team by one spot. Tom also had a teammate name steph weiand who also was one of the all time best. I believe he still holds 2 records at NDSU. Pretty impressive considering they both graduated in 1979 from Hebron ND.

Can't forget the Wells girl from Dickinson and that girl from Bownman from the mid 90's. Can't recall her name as of now, but I'm sure somebody will. GOT IT..Tonya Fischer.

Don't know if I would classify him as one of our best athletes ever, but Paulo Costa from Killdeer still holds the 800 m record for boys at a 1:54. Pretty impressive considering it was set I think back in 86 or 87. Seems like no one gets closer than 1:58. Which is still 4 seconds slower and approximately 25 meters behind.

Beulah had some outstanding runner in the late 80's early 90's also. Won state something like 5 out of 6 years.

Let's go way back to Drexel Lawson from the School for the Deaf and Phil Farris from Langdon. Old time when they only placed 6 and Lawson won the state by himself I believe.

Rob Heen from Williston...not saying best ever, but ran a 4:16 1600m in 1987, and I think a 9:08 in the 3200m...ended up at the U. of Wisconsin I believe.

Ryan Chappell may be the only male class A athlete to win four individual running events in one state meet, and he still holds both hurdle records. Also, Howard Hausauer was the most dominant thrower I've ever personally seen in North Dakota.

ah yes, rob hein. I remember watching him running. Howard Hausauer was a freak. Threw the shot a remarkable 72 feet I believe. Though he choked during the state tournament. Still wonder how a guy could warm up during the months of march and april and throw it over 60 feet without spinning, then suddenly at the end of may could hardly get it 60 feet? Man, that goes back 20 years ago already.

I guess if we are in this era Jerry Boschee from Killdeer was a remarkable runner. He had the signature "head bob" motion when he ran. Still remember when he got the baton in last place in the 4x200m relay. First place was starting to make the turn and sure enough he edged everybody out for first place.

Another runner from this generation was jerry bodine from Hazen. He ended up playing football for Notre Dame also.

well after this weekend I think that we need to say Laura Roesler, Fargo South (17 career state titles and NO doubt one of the most exciting people to watch), Ellie Grooters, West Fargo (totally dominates any hurdle race she runs in); Roesler and Grooters could run with the boys at most of the small meets and totally dominate them :)

Also, Joash Osoro should be considered with the times that he runs in those distance races...9:12 is unbelievable for the 3200 meter run...I know that its not a record or anything but it was fun to watch!!

Yeah Todhunter from GF Red River won the 110 and 300 hurdles; he also did well in his other events last weekend.

In distance we must remember Sam Larson, he was a dominant guy, 7 individual state track and cross country championships. Some other real notables are Ross Schilling, Justim Marsette, and Russel Dixon

Wow, tough one.

Class A girls: Laura Roesler is the obvious choice - just an amazing competitor. We all know what she's done. She has a real chance of being an Olympian.

Class B girls: Whitney Carlson. 19 state titles and she could have had many more since she was so versatile (hurdles, jumps, and sprints). In college, where she's concentrating on track, she's run the 400 hurdles in 58 seconds and has long jumped over 21 feet. Seriously, how many guys can do that? She already holds four records at NDSU.

Class A Boys: Weston Dressler. Senior year, he swept the sprints and set two state records. Would have been really interesting to see what he'd have done in college if he had run track.

Class B Boys: Jared Essler. Senior year he took home four championships and set two state records. Was an All-American sprinter in college while splitting time in football.
