Dakota Elite Challenge

Postby hoops247 » Mon May 26, 2008 11:24 am

Does anyone know much about this meet - The Dakota Elite Challenge?

http://dakotas.usatf.org/dakota_elites.html

Do anyone think they will get a good showing of athletes from both states??

The meet didn't really have a chance. Just as an example, I was on the heat sheat or whatever to run in this meet, yet the only time I heard about it was by reading this. If they want it to be a success they at least have to tell the athletes who are supposed to run.

that was the sheet with the top 9 best times ,distances and heights. if you registered online you got put on the final sheet of who was coming to the meet. but it was kind of a bust 6 high jumpers all nd, 9 boys shot was probably the most competitive, some relays only had 1 team. it is a great idea but growing pains might hurt this alot of travel for teams with not much to compare to but themselves. pierre so dak was the farthest team with alot of athletes along.didnt see many college coaches there either.

I dunno if I'd call the meet a bust - at least not on the girl's side. Laura Roesler ran a 2:04.9 800 and Kristen Killoran apparently went over 20' in the long jump. Those are nationally elite marks as Roesler's time is the second in the country this year and Killoran's jump is the fifth best. South Dakota had a pole vaulter there too who came in with the third-best jump in the country. Heck, I just checked the results and Adrienne Thomas broke 12 seconds in the 100 and almost cracked 25 in the 200... holy cow.

Granted, the guy's side had some pretty weak times (10:02 won the 3200 - when I was in HS, the qualifying standard was faster than that.) The 110 hurdles had some good times though. 'Course, it would be better if 8 people were in each events.

It was nice to see that Wisthoff exceeded 60' again in the shot.

Guys 800 was strong too. 1:55 won it and 2:00 was fourth place so that was much faster than the state meet
