the reimnitz girl almost beat her in the 100 -- missed by .03 of a second. roesler took 1st in the 100,200,400,800.

I thought Reimnitz was going to beat Roesler in the 100... and that would've been amazing but she pulled through, like she always seems to do! : )

Well considering that it was only a couple seconds off of the best time recorded last year, yeah

She just set a new standard. 2:05.68 which is a provisional qualifier for the Olympic Trials. Automatic is 2:01.5, and "B" or provisional is 2:06.5, and they fill the field up to 30 runners if there aren't enough automatic qualifiers. Kinsey Coles ran in the trials in '04 and I think her time was 2:04 going in, so Laura has a shot. Her 2:05 is very amazing when you think about the fact 2nd place was a 2:27. It'd be fun to see her challenged here in ND but I don't know who ever could in the 800.

Roesler ran a 2:03.08 recently, which puts her at number 22 in the country among all female 800 meter runners this year. She will almost certainly be running at the Olympic trials in a few weeks. That's obviously quite an accomplishment for a North Dakota high schooler.

That time is the best in the nation this year from a high schooler and #8 all time from a high school athlete. Good Luck to Laura. Quite an accomplishment from any high schooler

You can see Roesler's 2:03.08 here: http://www.runnerspace.com/video.php?do ... eo_id=4648 (she's the one in the pink top).

It certainly looks like she can run faster considering how much she had left over the final 200 meters.

No American female high school 800 meter runner has ever gone under 2:00. I really think Roesler has a chance over the next couple of years.

Thanks for the video link. I think you are right about the sub 2:00 possibility. It was probably just what Laura needed to run a race in traffic - when has she ever been in 9th halfway through a race??? But mentally and physically to run from the back of the pack of 58 split ladies was very good for her, and her closing speed - she was still closing at the finish line - was amazing and does make me think she hasn't run her best yet. If she'd started kicking a few meters earlier, she could have won. and gone low 2:02 or even under. Also, I was looking at an article on Chanelle Price, the PA high schooler who just graduated and ran a 2:01.61 the same day laura ran 2:03 (different meet). By June after her sophomore year she had just run a PR of 2:06.23. Now 2 years later Price is almost 5 seconds faster. Everyone progresses differently, but Laura is over 3 seconds ahead of that pace if you look at any parallels. if she cut 5 seconds off her time over 2 years as Price did, you can do the math. She is very disciplined and mature as a runner, but when people in the 2:20's are your comp week in and week out, it's tough to make huge strides. She would be more likely to do it with national/world comp in the summers.

You can check the status of all the Trials entries at http://www.usatf.org/events/2008/Olympi ... .asp#women When you look at who scratches and who declares, you will be able to see what seed Laura goes in as. Laura's entry status is still "pending". If all the "pending" and "open" entries abover her become declared entries, Laura would be at worst, 18th seed. Semi-finals doesn't look out of reach at all, and then who knows. Best of luck to Roesler and Hermanson.

That is great - I saw she has the 7th best time going into the semis- anyone know how many they take to the Olympics for it? I think that would be an unbelievable accomplishment - I know we all have disagreements on a variety of topics with this site -but I think we can all agree that this state is very proud of her accomplishments.

However to make it she would also have to run under the "A" qualifying provisional and be in the Top 3 to go to the Olympics! I am pretty sure she can run that time though!!

Regardless of how Laura does today, she has made sure she is known in the running world. There are some nice articles out there in such outlets as the NY Times and the LA Times. Here are some links, also to a post-race interview.
