The Forum has an article up on two Class B athletes that were DQ-ed in their events in finals at the State track meet. One coach is arguing that change needs to be made. Thoughts?

Yes, I think the rule should definitely be changed. This is bureaucracy at it worst!

Something that definitely needs to change for certain circumstances. I can see having the rule in place to prevent coaches from shuffling people around based on who other teams have in certain events, but if an injury occurs to a relay team (especially in class B) it makes no sense not to be able to substitute someone else in there. That kid that gets put in there is already losing out on an individual event, but to then get disqualified from all events is ridiculous.

You can use alternates in Class B, just like Class A. We always bring extra athletes just in case someone gets hurt or comes down sick...

However, the G-M issue seems to hinder on the tournament official giving the go-ahead before the meet and ‘mis-communicating’ the situation...wasn’t his first ‘mis-communication’...won’t be his last either!
