Jake Leingang fast opener

Jake Leingang, Sr. Bismarck HS ran a 8:56.6 two mile and finished third at the Brooks PR Classic Feb 24 in Seattle. Leingang led from the start and was passed with one lap to go. His splits were 4:36 4:18 including
a 58 final 400. Impressive talent around the US these days. Leingang's time ranks him #4 on USA prep two mile list. earlier last month, Ed Cheserek broke the national two mile record with an 8:39 effort at the Milrose Games. Gerry Lindgren had held the HS record since 1964. Both Leingang and Cheserek will
be team mates at Oregon next year. Good stuff going on in USA distance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Leingang run a faster 2 mile at that meet last year?

I guess that makes you wrong. He ran 8:59 last year at that meet. Ran from the back and moved up.
This year he went to the front as wasn't passed till 300 meters. Distance races are often about
tactics, especially indoors.
Keep in mind, Last years training weather was incredibly warm. Not close to being the same this year.
My feeling is he's progressing just fine.

The confusion in theman's question is that...Leingang ran an 8:51 at the Arcadia meet last year. This was a different early season meet.

Arcadia, California is in early April.. I've heard from those in Bismarck that
he's going back. Should be a great race again. Go NoDakota.

next question, how many Jake Leingang threads do we need?

I'd say the same amount that we had for Laura Roesler, which was probably quite a few. It's not every day that the State of North Dakota gets somebody who can shatter all the state records and compete at the national level.

I only found one Laura Roesler thread. I found 4 Jake Jeingang threads and 3 of the top 5. Why can't everyone just post about his accomplishments in one place? It makes it easier to find information.

If you go beyond the first page of Track & Field topics there are 3-4 total Roesler topics...

The reason Jake's all seem to be at the top is because he is currently in HS (and dominating)...Roesler has moved onto college so therefore there are less topics on the first page.

I went through every page and only found 1 Roesler top with her name in the subject line. I did a better search and see there are two such topics.

That seems pretty obvious.

Since her name was brought up, did you guys see how Roesler did at indoor nationals? She took 2nd in the 800 with a 2:02.30, which is her best time since that 2:03 that she ran at the Trials in high school. Keep up the good work!

Leingang has ran a 8:52.94 3200m and a 4:08.57 1600m has a ND runner ever ran those events faster?

He ran the 800m on Monday in 1:54.89

His 800m this year ranks 9th all-time
His 1600m this year ranks 1st all-time
His 3200m this year would be ranked 2nd all-time behind his own time from last year - 8:51.23 (not on list)

Both the 1600M and 3200M times I believe are in the top 10 of the nation this year.

1600 - 3rd (4:08.57)
3200 - 12th (8:52.94)

His latest 1600 time would put him at 2nd in the nation.

I hope for great weather next weekend and that he crushes the "state records."

I've seen the the times, but how were the conditions?

not great...

Mile was on Friday - 55 with a 25-30 mph wind from the east...gusting to 40 mph

2 Mile was on Saturday - 65 with a 15-20 mph wind from the southeast
800 was on Saturday - about the same conditions as the 2 mile just a bit more tactical.

Mile & 2 Mile were over on the first lap...no competition for Leingang

Leingang wins the 5,000 at nationals with 14:11.61, more than 17 seconds faster than 2nd place.
viewtopic.php?f=37&t=11549
you have scroll about half way down to see it

Drew Wiseman and 4x1 mile relay team from Bismarck also placed high. Run will probably tell us if more ND participated.

Bismarck's 4x1 mile finished 6th overall - 17:24.91 (Leingang ran the fastest split as the anchor with a 4:09.03); winning time was 17:16.12

Sam Clausnitzer (Bismarck) finished 9th in the Freshman 2 Mile race; his time was 9:49.96

Jon Tharaldsen (Bismarck) competed in the Boys Shot Put...he had no distance but he was the only athlete in the Championship competition that was sophomore or younger

Dylan Leutz (Century) finished 5th in the 110 Meter Hurdles Emerging Elite race with a time of 14.6

Drew Wiseman (Century) finished 5th in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 52.12
