2021 Predictions

Postby hoops4lyf40 » Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:02 am

I have a feeling this is going to be a tough year to make some predictions, being that we missed the entire 2020 season... but what are some of the teams to beat, records to be on watch for, individual champions for the upcoming 2021 season?

amen to that!

On athletic net, you can filter the 2019 results, to show only the grades 7-10(senior class of 2020)... this gave me a general idea of who to expect near the top of the state, of returning athletes of course. This was pretty bland though, and im hoping someone out there may have a 'hot take' to drum up some conversation.

Distance events can be taken off of how XC went; should be some fun Class A battles in those races this year. Going to guess that EDC/WDA won't have any meets against each other this year until State (just how they've operated all fall and winter for Basketball seasons).

This year has to be even more challenging than prior years predicting preseason top dogs since an entire season was lost. We will know more once season has a few meets underway. It looks like you have some decent predictions for individuals based on what happened in 2019 with who is coming back. But this year's seniors were only sophomores when they last got to compete in track and so much can change in that time. Every year it seems some kid comes out of nowhere and does well, and this spring that may happen even more. Plus there are so many unknowns with pandemic, such as how spring sports will look: will there be a big state meet like in past years? It will still be a possibility of teams or individuals needing to quarantine as well. From a team standpoint I don't feel HCV will be the favorite in Boys B. Their best chance would have been 2020 which never happened and they graduated most of the athletes that had potential to score big points in sprints, relays and jumping events. I don't know much about what western part of state brings back. It seems teams like Kindred and some others always reload in the sprinting department.

I see they have some good sprinters.
Four very good freshman sprinters in the state. That Belquist girl from New Rockford has really come on strong the last few weeks.

Boys: I would imagine Kindred could make some noise in team standings as they seem to be fairly well rounded.
Girls: Agree Central Cass has the tools to finish high in the ranks as well

Opinions on Top 5 caliber teams (most likely top team to least)

Class B Boys: Kindred, Bowman County, Rugby, Beulah, Grafton, (Dickinson Trinity, Hillsboro-CV)

Class B Girls: Central Cass, Beulah, Oakes, May-Port-CG, (New Rockford-Sheyenne, Wyndmere-Lidgerwood, Lisbon, Shiloh)

Class A Boys: Century, WF Sheyenne, Legacy, Bismarck, West Fargo, (Fargo South, Dickinson, St. Mary’s)

Class A Girls: Davies, Century, Jamestown, Watford City, (West Fargo, Bismarck, Mandan)

Cannot wait to watch the Class A Boys distance races...23 2-milers under 10:00 is unreal; Calob Larson of Legacy should be fun to watch in the A Sprints too

Kaden Pastian of HCV and his quest for 200’ in Discus will be fun as well

Subject to change slightly before Thursday when declarations are made public

I'll also be watching Pastian to see if he can pass Kleinsasser and Hausauer in the shot put.

What a turn of events in the Class A girls after Davies’ 4x2 was DQ’d; and then Century places 6th in Shot Put to win by 1 point

ALSO... Oakes over takes Central Cass in Class B girls team title race with a strong 4x4 finish

I was wondering the exact same thing.

It was also interesting that the Girls B title came down to the very last race and the Girls A title came down to the last few shot put throws I believe.

I was looking at the times going into the 4x400 and figured CC could hold them off, but it didn't look like they were able to put a strong team together for that event.
