2019 General Discussion

Postby theman » Tue Nov 27, 2018 2:46 pm

Figured that this thread can be put up since XC is done...

This season's state regulations have the following update:

"Athletic.net will be utilized to report all state qualifiers. The site http://tf.bismarck.k12.nd.us/index.php will no longer be utilized. All track schools will need to establish a free account on the athletic.net website."

Can we expect all schools to upload their results to that website? That would simplify the process of listing all the state results, because if you go to the "North Dakota home" section of track and field on the website, there's a listing of all results by month.

Was at the UND home indoor meet today. Meghan Ford (Jamestown) won the mile (full mile) in 5:03 racing unattached. No competition, led the whole race start to finish. Converts to about a 5:01 1600, which is the fastest time in the state some years!

Didn't Karly Ackley, Matti Shirley-Fairbairn, and Kelby Anderson all run about that time (or faster) just a couple years ago?

They did, but that's why I said "some" years. We're talking about three of the fastest girls in state history. Matti had a state record, and then Karly broke it, and Kelby is tearing it up at NDSU right now. Those were some stacked years for Class A girls distance running.

As a coach, I must say that the system for posting scheduled meets NEEDS to change. Some schools put up their meets on Athletic.net, and some put their meets up on NDHSAA, and some both. The rules and regulations say we have to put our meet information and entries on Athletic.net this year, but the state also emailed all coaches recently saying they have to put up their meets on the NDHSAAnow website. Why the double-dibbing? It's quite confusing.

NDHSAA has always asked for schedule, roster and picture by a mid-April deadline or pay a $50 fine...All sports.

I know, and it makes perfect sense for that website to be used. But now that they ask for athletic.net to be used for meets, I can tell by looking at the schedules on both websites that some coaches are using one but not the other. It's been hard having to keep track of which meets are posted on which website.

There are going to be some big meets once (if) the snow melts. Could we be looking at the first outdoor meet in the SE or NE region after May 1st?

Depends on if we get more rain then snow in this next storm; I’m hopeful to see a meet around Easter (week after).

The NDHSAA does not require meets nor rosters to be placed on athletic.net. Only qualifiers to the state meet are required to be placed on athletic.net, replacing the old Bismarck site. This was done at the request of coaches and coaches advisory.

Ok, that makes sense. I guess when I read it I thought they meant all meets, not just state qualifiers. So I still see a problem with some meets being put on athletic.net and not the state activities? At the end of the day that's the real problem I'm asking. I'm just trying to find out when meets are, so it's been quite a challenge.

I know the outdoor schedule this year. It's regions and then state. That's the whole schedule.

General question with regards to a lot of class A schools, but where do they all practice? I don't think the schools in Bismarck, Fargo and Grand Forks all have their own track.

Fargo/WF
Davies - own track (Discovery MS also has a track)
South - own track
WF - own track
Sheyenne - own track
Shanley - rents Concordia, uses area streets
North - uses area streets, maybe gets some use from NDSU
OG - similar to Shanley, uses area streets more

Is there a central website used my most (or all) track meet hosts so a person could go to one site and find results from multiple meets?

I used to coach basketball in a conference that gave out a weekly player of the week award. Each coach in the conference could nominate a player if they wanted too. The only catch was if you didn't have stats updated online you were ineligible to nominate anyone. I think track should do something similar. If you host a track meet and can't have results posted by noon of the next business day you have a one year ban from hosting tracking meets. Who says no?

This year not everyone has the capability to get things on Athletic.net as quickly...but they do get on eventually.

Care to expand on this? Cavalier has hosted two meets. The first one it took a little over a week to see results and now they hosted one yesterday and...nothing.

It's as simple to upload results if you are new to the system. I just had to upload results from our MN meets this week...if they aren't sent in a specific format then they cannot get entered; it took most of my afternoon and I understand the site pretty well.

Athletic.net is a great site but if you don't have the right equipment then it can be a bit more difficult to enter things. This is the FIRST year that small schools have had to use this system and some meets are hand-held meets still (no camera) which makes it a bit more taxing to enter.

By next year, schools will have a better understanding of how to work the site.

Isaac Huber from Edgeley/Kulm and Brady Yoder from Dickinson run 9:13 and 9:15, respectively for 3200 meters at Howard Wood Relays this last weekend, placing them 8th and 10th, respectively, on the all time state list. Wow!

If we have nice weather at state, the Class B State Meet 1600 and 3200 meter records are in serious danger.

Links to all the current ranking for each class are here;

https://sites.google.com/bismarckschools.org/bpstrackfieldxc/home/nd-performance-list

The state qualifying marks are listed within the results so obviously everyone with a faster time/better distance would qualify.

why is the girls Class B javelin qualifying distance higher than the class A? In all other events that have different qualifying marks, Class A is higher than class B.
