Nodak's Finest

Postby RunThat400 » Fri Oct 27, 2017 11:03 pm

Just wondering if anyone can name some of the fine track and field athletes that have gone on to compete in college? It'd be nice to see who have dedicated themselves to running in circles or throwing heavy objects.

Two websites I would check out:

ndrunner.tripod.com (LOTS of good stuff there)
northdakotarunner.blogspot.com (pretty biased self-promotion, but there's research there)

These are more distance-runner heavy, and I don't know if anybody keeps track of post-collegiate athletes in sprints or field events.

Some of the most successful runners post-collegiately that I can think of off the top of my head that would be great places to begin looking:

Laura Roesler
Andrew Carlson
Corey Ihmels

Riley Dolezal (Stanley) threw the Javelin at NDSU...now throws the Jav professionally.

Thought I'd add to this thread,

Yesterday (6/7/18), Alyssa Olin (Mott) placed 5th in the Women's Javelin Final at the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field Championships, scoring points for NDSU as a senior. Her best throw was 55.02m, or 180 ft, 6in.

At the 2018 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships,

Alyssa Olin (Mott/NDSU) took 5th place in the javelin final with a throw of 176-4.

Riley Dolezal (Stanley (right?)/NDSU) took 3rd place in the javelin final with a throw of 246-5.

Laura Roesler (Fargo South/Oregon) also did very well and made the semifinals...7th best time on the day but 5th fastest from her heat...so she missed out on the final.

Yeah, forgot to post this article from the Jamestown Sun. I wondered why she wasn't showing up in results for a while before this meet, looks like she took a bit of a break.

Couple things:

First off, I've updated top-ten lists using as many of this year's college results I could find. Let me know if there's any mistakes or omissions!

Second, Lexi Zeis (formerly of Bismarck High and U-Mary, now running in Boulder, CO), took 6th place at the USATF 25km Road Championships this last weekend. She ran 1:28.35, which is an average of 5:42/mile for about 15-ish miles.
