Former Minot High School standout Andrew Gudmunson has recieved clearance from the University of Nebraska to transfer to UND. He will now play football along with baseball.

This is a very good addition for UND's baseball program, not sure how much he will help the football team but he is athletic and im sure he will help out in any way possible....

my insight: im from minot so.....im hoping he never gets to play and then transfers to MSU

here is the text from the KMOT news story about Andrew:

BASEBALL FANS IN MINOT KNOW THAT THE MAGIC CITY HAS PRODUCED SOME GREAT TALENT IN THE LAST FEW YEARS. IN FACT, THREE OF OUR LOCAL PLAYERS, PHIL AND CHARLIE SHIREK, ALONG WITH ANDREW GUDMUNSON, ALL WENT ON TO DIVISION 1 POWERHOUSE NEBRASKA TO PLAY COLLEGE BASEBALL.

WHILE THE SHIREK BROTHERS BOTH PLAYED WELL FOR THE CORNHUSKERS, GUDMUNSON RED-SHIRTED THIS PAST YEAR AND NOW, HE'S DECIDED TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL. GUDMUNSON HAS BEEN GRANTED HIS RELEASE FROM NEBRASKA, AND HE WILL NOW TRANSFER TO THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA. BUT HE WILL DO MORE THAN JUST PLAY BASEBALL FOR THE SIOUX. GUDMUNSON SAYS HE ALSO PLANS TO PLAY FOOTBALL, AND HIS GOAL FOR THIS YEAR IS TO BE THE TEAM'S 3RD STRING QUARTERBACK.

WHILE HE WASN'T TOO SPECIFIC ON HIS REASONS FOR RETURNING HOME, HE DID SAY THAT MISSED A LOT ABOUT NORTH DAKOTA AND THAT HE KNOWS THIS IS WHAT HE WANTS TO DO.

Gudmunson is also a very good safety.  I cant remember if he played FS or SS but he is a very good safety and could maybe get some playing time down the road.

Gudmunson was not a Big XII quality baseball player. Good player, but not good enough for that level. A school that size will take a gamble on a kid of his size and strength and hope something can turn out but he didnt have the fine skills to play at that level. Best of luck to him at UND!
