Maybe it is the 17 year losing streak.  Maybe it is that the head coaches look like they are still wet behind the ears.  Maybe it is that HS kids are smarter than we give them credit.

It's hard for some of the out-of-state kids to realize how small these four year colleges, and the towns they are in, are.  I know when I went to VCSU some of the kids had no idea where they were going until they got there.  Some of them panned out, and others thought they were too big time for that, so they left after the first year.  Small, isolated communty, cold weather, homesickness, it all adds up.

Because most of the local talent knows how bad Mayville State is at football and don't buy the recruiting ploys the coaches tell these guys from all over the country.  Mayville State made their biggest mistake not hiring Coach Oksendahl from Cavalier, had they got him there would've been loads of local talent coming to Mayville for football.

Did Oksendahl apply at VCSU?

Heard that he was in and Tim was going to be the QB.  I also heard that Tim was a no show at the scrimmage.

I will have to talk to my sources on coach O and Tim sometime and see what's up there.

i'll tell you what i really feel for coach jody ford. Because he has gotten plenty of good local athletes on campus and they either had better offers, don't want to play sports, or simpily don't want to lose. And when i hear people say they don't recruit locally thats bull. last yeay they had eight or nine starters from north dakota.

Can you name me the 8 or 9 starters from north dakota last year? I think its tough to find nine players from north dakota on the roster.

I knew Lee wouldn't be playing, what's the reason for nueman and Eslinger not playing this fall?

I am going to make the boldest prediction in that has ever been made on this site.  Mayville State is going to go 4-6 and at the worst 3-7.  They will beat Crookston right off the bat and will beat South Dakota Tech twice and I am saying that they beat Dakota State.  I will probably take some heat for this but that is alright.

haha that is a pretty bold prediction, is there anything you can tell me about Mayville this year that gonna help them win 4 games this year? All give ya they could beat tech twice this year (think its weak when ya have to play a conference team twice in a year) Crookston and Dakota State could go either way. But i'd love to hear what Mayville state has going for them this year.

They will have 6 seniors and 25 juniors.  This will make them more experienced.  They have a new quarterback who is supposed to be really good and Dustin Hagans is gonna help solidify the wide receiver position.  They have 2 jucos that will help them on the offensive line and return some very good linebackers.

you can't polish a turd.  returning a bunch of guys who have shown no abililty to win isn't going to convince me that they will win 4.  everybody returns players.  every year someone tries to say this is the year they turn it around and this year we brought in the quarterback that will help us and it is always the same.  MSU was near the bottom of the NAIA in offense and defense last year and will probably be back there again.

Last year I heard that the new QB (Hagans) coming in was good and was gonna help them out, now he is a WR. So I'm not gonna believe any hype on a QB tell I see it. What about the running back position? Anyway I got no problem with you thinking they will win 4 I'd be glad to see that happen. I just hear more talk then walk when it comes to Mayville State Football.

the comets were defeated by a better U of M Crookston team tonight by the score of 21-0. I know this is going to sound wierd but i think this is a step in the right direction. THey competed. Something they did very little of last year.

Since the 21-0 loss to Crookston, Mayville has lost 21-7 to MSU-Moorhead (who blew them out of the water last season), beat SD Tech 10-7 in 3OT, and lost 28-0 to Jamestown who is ranked 8th in NAIA nationally (last year Mayville played Jamestown twice and i think the combined score was something like 120-0)

They have definately been moving forward and are a better team than last year.

Hagans originally was a D1 Wide Receiver in California so I think this will be a good fit... Also it could be nice to have 2 guys with QB experience on the field at the same time to run some trick plays!

Mitch to me it seems like they still have NO offense at all and the defense is better then it was last year so they aren't giving up as many points as last year. But is that defense gonna be any better next year when they lose there stud linebackers?
