Lisbon sweeps Owen Jensen Kiwanis meet

Breckenridge-Campbell-Tintah hosted the Owen Jensen Kiwanis Track Meet Tuesday at Cowboy Field in Breckenridge. Ten teams competed in the boys and girls competitions and the Lisbon Broncos came away with the top spot in both.

Lisbon’s boys team collected 121 points to beat West Fargo’s 98. Breckenridge-Campbell-Tintah and Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood finished third and fourth with 83 and 78 points, respectively. Richland 44 finished fifth with 71 points while Wahpeton earned 36 points for seventh place.

On the girls side, Lisbon’s 116.5 points was good enough to beat Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood’s 108.2. Breckenridge-Campbell-Tintah finished fourth with 77 points while Wahpeton came in sixth with 36. Richland 44 earned 20 points and finished ninth.

Individually, several local athletes had banner days.

Jon Griffith of Richland 44 was named outstanding boys field athlete at the event. He won both the triple jump and long jump.

Lisbon’s Trent Seelig earned outstanding boys track athlete with first place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles and the 110-meter hurdles.

Jen Ellefson of Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood was named outstanding girls track athlete on the heels of a victory in the 100-meter dash and a second place finish in the 200-meter dash.

Outstanding girls field athlete Amy Rourke of Lisbon won three events: The javelin, shot put and discus.

Wahpeton’s Kyle Wetzel and Aaron Roland claimed first and second place in the 100-meter dash to lead the Huskies.

Breckenridge-Campbell-Tintah’s Mike Herrick took a seven-second win in the 800-meter dash while Cowgirls senior Marecca Vertin claimed the top spot in the triple jump and third in the long jump.

Breckenridge-Campbell-Tintah freshman Stephanie Erlandson continued her strong season with wins in the long jump and 400-meter dash.

Coyote boys starting to place more with trip to Duane Carlson Invite

MINOT - The Williston boys track and field team took part in the Duane Carlson Invitational finishing sixth on Tuesday. The Coyotes are starting to see a few more individuals place.

Alex Mock took third place in the long jump with a 19-foot, 2 1/2-inch effort.
