I know its not even the All Star break, but where does everyone thing Mr Mauer will end up? And does anyone know about when he should be averaging enough plate appearances?

The Twins fan in me says he'll finish the season batting an amazing .412, but the hopeful realist says he'll finish in the high .370s.

im not sure where hes at now but you need 3.1 plate appearances per teams games...thats walk, hits, out, sacrifices anything where hes in the box. i was actually talking with a freind today and i said no lower then .385

According to ESPN.com after today's game he is 8 plate appearances away from averaging 3.1. Mid June most people were saying he should get to 3.1 around mid July. Looks like they were slightly off. So lets hope for a good series against Detroit and maybe actaully officially lead the league with something around .395.

It was good seein him go 3 for 3 today. Man was he in a slump.

Ok just double checked with espn's math and well it's a little off. Joe now has 240 tpl in 80 games giving him an average of 3 per game. add 8 appearances to that without adding any more games and yes you do have 3.1. But to have 8 more appearances he will have to play in ATLEAST(it is possible) another game. and 248/81 is 3.06. I don't know if espn is being very generous but Joe most likely will need more than just 8 more plate appearances. By my calculation if he gets 5 appearances per game, in 4 games he will be averaging 3.13 per game.

As a Twins fan I hope he gets it, but batting .400 is pretty tough to do. The record is .406 by Ted Williams I believe. Anyone knows who's second all time?

I think Ted Williams' 0.406 was just the last time it was done.
That being said I don't think he does it.

I agree with Joe Mauer and the rest of the Twins when they say its too early to really know if he has a chance. That being said, I feel that July will give us a good idea. If he can go through the month of July near or above .400 Joe has a legitimate shot. Statistically his average slowly declines through August but increases the last month of the season close to his July average.

I know George Sisler hit .420 one year.

Defenses are what makes it so hard these days. You come up to the plate, and the manager is sitting there with a chart that says exactly where you hit outside curveballs from left-handed pitchers in the last six weeks, so he shifts his fielder 10 feet to the right and you hit a liner right at him.
