Greatest College Starting 5 of all time

Talk about the world of sports here. And also a sub-forum to talk about anything else.

Greatest College Starting 5 of all time

Postby The Schwab » Sat Jan 31, 2009 12:14 pm

So me and a buddy were having a discussion on this. The rules are simple.
1. Pick a college
2. Give a starting 5 and a sixth man (use any player in the college history, and don't just more than one position either way)
3. I know some are obvious choices, but i wanna hear your input, What college do YOU think has the best all time starting 5.

Ready, Set, Go

UCLA:
Kareem Abdul Jabaar
Bill Walton
Ed O'Bannon
Reggie Miller
Baron Davis

Okay before anybody criticizes me, I am talking about how they did in COLLEGE, not the pros. I did this line-up on how they did at UCLA.

UNC and Duke has a strong case as well.

UNC:
Tyler Hansbrough
Antwain Jamison
James Worthy
Michael Jordan
Ed Cota
With an amazing bench

I'm not old enough to have seen Jordan in college, but this statement is hard for me to believe after I've heard Mike krzyzewski make the comment that in all his years of coaching in the ACC there have only been two players that he thought were very special. Jordan was one Len Bias was the other.

I'd like to put Heinrich in here some place, but don't know who to replace. I loved the way he played the game and think he's one of the top Jayhawks in history.

Boozer could play....Johnny Dawkins was one of the all time greats...Can't forget Danny Ferry

I am going with:
Starters:
Johnny Dawkins
Booby Hurley
Grant Hill
Christian Laettner
Elton Brand

Bench:
Jay Williams
JJ Redick
Danny Ferry
Shane Battier
Mike Giminski
Art Heyman
Sheldon williams

I think that UNC and DUke and UCLA would probably have the deepest bench

i agree with your picks for duke but i dont care who you take off, you have to have jj redick on the starting 5 he's the all time leading scorer in the school's history and the conference. ( Hopefully not after this year)

Not gonna give DJ Augustin any love? I would probably put him in there over Abrams, different positions yes, but DJ had more of an impact.

When picking my starting 5 for Duke, you have to take into account the evolution of the athlete. I don't feel that Johnny Dawkins could guard Jay Williams. Personal opinion. So here is my all-time Duke 5.

G-Bobby Hurley
G-Jay Williams
F-JJ Reddick
F-Grant Hill
C-Christian Laetner

Bench: Johnny Dawkins, Danny Ferry, Elton Brand, Shane Battier, Carlos Boozer, and of couse Steve Wojokowski (sp) to be the guy at the end of the bench waving the towel and slapping the floor!!
